Mochi
Hello, my name is Mochi. My animal id is #246512. I am a male gray cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 1/29/2026.
Mochi is on the at risk list for medical reasons. Mochi tested positive for both FeLV and FIV infection. Further testing is consistent with progressive FeLV infection. Mochi was also rejected from surgery due to an abnormal heart rhythm. He will need follow up with a veterinarian and a consult with a cardiologist if the abnormal heart rhythm persists. Behaviorally, he was social for his intake, but squirmed and resisted restraint for medical tasks.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. My purr motor is always running! Need some biscuits for your breakfast? I'm an expert kneader!

VOCAL:: Quiet

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Upon approach, Mochi was up on the ledge moving curiously towards the front of the kennel with a neutral face and eyes, and his ears forward. As the assessor opened the door, he took a step back. Offering their hand, Mochi took a nervous step forward and sniffed. He then nudged the assessor's hand for pets. After petting his head for a moment the assessor moved their hand to the lower section of the kennel. A little hesitant, he waited a few seconds before jumping down and enjoying all petting from head to tail. Mochi was picked up and placed back down with no issues. Mochi interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience, demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
