My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. The staff think I would do best in a home where there are no other cats. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles! Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I have been known to shower my favorite people in love! My purr motor is always running! What my friends at ACC say about me: Carrot Cake interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that she go to a home with adopters with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in overstimulation and feline body language.

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 5. Red

KNOWN HISTORY:: Carrot Cake was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment. Upon intake, the cat seemed very afraid, was cornered at the other side of the crate with a tucked tail and a tensed body. Staff was able to MC scan carefully, the cat showed signs of being fearful. Once inside of the shelter, began to hiss and growl through the crate.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 4.9.24 After assessment was done, a NHO cat was being put into a den in the kennel below her, growling, hissing, striking. The cat next to her (multiple DOH infractions) was hissing. Carrot Cake reacted by flattening ears and reaching out to strike staff. She remained by the front of the kennel the entire time vocalizing and trying to strike. 4/19/24 Right at front of cage, sticking paws through the bars, meowing, looking for interaction. Opened door and Carrot Cake came right up - ignoring squeeze treat bowl - looking for head rubs and pets. Rubbing and bumping hand. Calm and cool, tail waving slowly, low purr. Gave plenty of head rubs and ended interaction. Carrot Cake hung out by cage looking for more and then went to sit in the middle of the cage 4/20/24 Was on top of den & came up to the front of the kennel sticking her paw out of the door without claws. Ignored dry treats offered on scratcher & also Ignored squeeze up on scratcher. Allowed petting with scratcher tool & by hand on cheeks, top of head & backside. Sticks paw through door a couple times more without claws.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back,Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Affectionate,Curious,Social,People oriented,Easy going,Sweet,Calm

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Carrot Cake is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Carrot Cake becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children,No other cats OR multi-cat home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats

Recommendations comments:: No young children under 13 years old. No cats due to reaction to cat in neighboring kennel aggressing. See 4.9.24 enrichment note for more detail.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Carrot Cake was sitting up at the front of her kennel with neutral body language. She ate the treats provided, enjoyed pets all over with the scratch tool, then rubbed her cheeks against the assessor's hand. She gently head bunted them and squinted her eyes contently. Carrot Cake was easily picked up, and was purring softly when held for about 10 seconds. She was calm and loose while held and when placed back down again. Later on Carrot Cake reacted aggressively (hissed, growled, spat, struck, lunged) to another cat in a neighboring kennel and redirecting on staff. See 4.9.24 enrichment note for more detail. Carrot Cake interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that she go to a home with adopters with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in overstimulation and feline body language.
