Behavior toward children: Lychee was in a home that children frequently visited. Lychee was noted to hide, actively avoid, and will need time to warm up. Behavior toward cats: Lychee was in a home with another cat (his brother 257450). Lychee was noted to be curious, rough play, friendly and affectionate. Behavior toward dogs: No experience. Bite or Scratch history: No history. Litter box training: Yes. Lychee was in a home with 2 litter boxes, located in the living room. The litter box was covered, scented with clumping clay litter. Energy level/descriptors: Low energy level. Other notes: Lychee is affectionate, friendly, outgoing, quiet, a couch potato, watches from afar, and prefers contact on their terms. Lychee spends most of their time in the bedroom. Lychee was used for interactive play once a week. Lychee will play gently, chase/pounces on toys, and chase bugs. Lychee was fed dry food from the brand Meow Mix. The owner stated their favorite thing about Lychee was that he is calm, quiet, and loving. Lychee will struggle and squirm when their nails are trimmed and when their coat is brushed. Lychee isn't bothered when picked up and held. Lychee will stress meow when placed in a carrier. Upon intake, Lychee had a tense body but allowed all handling.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 7/12/26 FB09 Lychee was sitting in his kennel with lowered ears and hissed at the handler upon approach. When offered treats, he cautiously approached and began eagerly licking them up. He avoided all direct contact and hissed at the handler once more after eating. 7/19/26 Vol. Hissed while den was being opened, then poked head out with squinty eyes. Remained watching with sweet talk. Leaned out to sniff a cup of Temptations and squeeze-up on the tool, then eagerly ate. Came all the way out of den to look for more and calmly ate treats tossed in through the bars. Ate squeeze-up through the bars and allowed head and check rubs with my fingers while eating. Removed at the front when finished, sniffed my fingers, and ate a few more dry treats. 7/23/26 Vol. Lychee is curled up on his side dozing in the litter box. He remains relaxed when spoken to, and comes forward when the tool with the treat is extended through the bars and licks it. However, when the tool is passed through the kennel door itself, he swats at it hard, sending the treat flying, and then licked it up from the linen. He continues to seek treats, extending his paws/claws through the bars. He also loves crunchy treats, but hisses when a body approaches closely. To avoid reinforcing this behavior, he was made to wait and when quiet, received a crunchy reward. This process was repeated several times, and he began to sit quietly for longer periods and blinked slowly. (He is congested, noted on board 3 days ago.) 7/24/26 FB20 Lychee is at the front of the kennel and hisses on approach. He is ravenous for treats, at first temptations. When a scratcher tool is extended without temptations, he swats at it. Handler uses squeeze up on a scratcher tool he jumps onto the tool and begins grumbling and eating it rapidly, tearing the glove covering the tool. 7/24/26 Vol. Curled up in litter box when reading kennel card - sat erect with tail wrapped, eyes 1/2 open when opened door. Came over to treat bowl and allowed head scratches with tool while eating but when done, immediately pulled back and did not allow touching, watching tool intently. Refilled bowl, gave a few scratches as he ate and ended interaction.

Potential challenges comments:: Lychee should be given a slow introduction to the home, one room at a time starting in a small room like a bathroom with food, litter and water. Interact with him in this room until he seems sufficiently confident that you feel you can introduce him to the next part of the home without running the risk that he will hide. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to help introduce your cat to the home. Lychee has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. Lychee also has Dermatitis and Otitis and would require specialized care.

Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Lychee would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 7/11/26 Lychee was crouched in his den with his tail wrapped around his legs, hissing when the door opened. When treats were offered to him on the click stick, he cautiously stuck his head out of the den to lick them up. After finishing the treats, he moved further to the back of the den. When attempting to pet him with the click stick, he hissed and swatted at it, his ears and whiskers twitching back. The interaction was ended to reduce FAS. 7/16/26 Lychee is sitting up at the front of the kennel looking curiously at the assessor with a slightly tense face. he eats offered squeeze up through the bars eagerly, however when the door is slowly opened he hisses softly and runs in the back of the kennel. He runs forward immediately when he sees the squeeze up tube and allows petting on his cheeks and along his body with a scratcher tool. He hisses at the assessors hand but does not escalate further and remains at the front as the door is closed. Lychee tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced adopters.
