Animal Profile

Destiny

Hello, my name is Destiny. My animal id is #18523. I am a female tortoiseshell cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 10 months 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 1/17/2018.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Destiny is at risk due to medical condition, recently diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection. We recommend that Destiny go to an adult only home based on behaviors seen in the care center.

You may know me from such films as...

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A staff member writes: Destiny is a beautiful tortoiseshell cat. She is very sweet, loves attention and to play, but she's also very independent and likes her space. She enjoys cat nip. She would be a good fit for an experienced cat owner. A volunteer writes: "Destiny knows what she wants," a volunteer told me in the cat adoption room when I went to meet this delicate tortie girl. Indeed, I found this to be absolutely true. Friendly and extroverted, Destiny came right up to me and made it clear she wanted to play. After a little time with her cat toy, she leaned right into me for pettings and head butts. When she was done and wanted some alone time, she let me know by heading to the sleep loft of her kennel. Cats have a reputation as sphinx-like and hard to read, but you won't have that problem with this petite beauty. If your kind of cat is an engaging and curious social butterfly who needs a little independence, then you must meet Destiny today!

My medical notes are...

Weight: 5.34 lbs

Behavior Condition: 1. Green

Upon intake Destiny had a relaxed body posture inside the carrier. Her eyes were semi dilated and her tail was to the side. She was receptive to handling and very quiet. She allowed to be collared and to be removed from her carrier. Outside the carrier she kept her body low and she walked away slowly from the counselor. She allowed the counselor to carry her and centered her for a picture. She walked inside her carrier willingly and accepted food. She ate 1/2 can of wet food.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 1/17 Observed Behavior -allows exam

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/18/18 Curled up in litter box at back of cubby, tense, eyes dilated. Sat up when startled by room noise, started looking around. Leaned forward to sniff treats, didn’t eat. Seemed very cautious of surroundings. Leaned away from touch, hissed. Ate wet food when put within reach, then seemed to gain some confidence. Came out to shelf after door closed, tail up, trilling, rubbing against cage furnishings. Came to front when spoken to, sniffed hand, rubbed against bars! A little unsure right now, but lots of potential to warm up. 1/21/18 Sitting at front of cubby, soft eyes and body, looking around. Meowed quietly when spoken to, then came out to shelf and sniffed hand between the bars, started eating offered treats. Stayed at the front when door opened, leaned and arched into pets, purred.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Destiny seeks affection, leans forward with tail up and remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed.

Reaction to touch:: Destiny head bunts the assessor's hand and appreciates petting on the head and body. However, after a few strokes she becomes agitated with the pets, looks at the hand and attempts to nip while randomly hissing while continuing to solicit.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Lively

VOCAL:: Talkative

CHARACTER TYPE: : Independent,Curious,Affectionate,Social

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation

Potential challenges comments:: Destiny is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Destiny becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Destiny tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
