Other Notes:: Valentino is known to pull hard on the leash and will lunge/hard bark at large dogs and skateboards while on walks. He allows most handling but has minimal experience with having his paws touched. Valentino is usually independent and will spend his time being a couch potato while at home. He prefers contact on his own terms but is very affectionate with familiar people. Valentino knows commands "sit, stay, wait, go, and go pee" and is used to at least 3 walks a day. He likes to play catch with a ball and enjoys car rides. Valentino is not pick and will usually eat any type of food/treats.

Summary:: According to Valentino's previous owner(s), he is tolerant of familiar small dogs but is known not to get along with big dogs. 7/29/26: Valentino is introduced to a novel intact small dog and approaches the fence with a neutral body and mid-high level wags. He sniffs nose to nose through the fence, remaining nonreactive but gives frequent whale eye and begins salivating as he watches the other dog. The other dog is avoidant, and Valentino redirects his attention without issue and sniffs by the fence line. 06/20/26: Valentino is introduced to a novel female while off leash. He greets with a neutral frame, briefly sniffing before walking away. He does not reapproach.

Summary (5):: 8/21/26: Valentino is laying at the back of the kennel on approach. He stands up, shakes off, and comes forward as trainer is unlocking the kennel door. Valentino's body language is loose. Valentino is leashed with ease and taken to the play yard. Valentino is aloof to treats and avoids the handler when being called or interacted with. The handler displays a different toy to Valentino other than the one he is holding in his mouth however Valentino is aloof and would rather play with the current toy he is holding. The handler makes a makeshift flirt pole but Valentino takes no interest. Valentino continues to squeak his current toy and shake it about every now and then. Valentino is brought back to the kennel with ease. 8/21/26: Valentino is observed to be suckling on his blanket and humping it. Valentino also has been reported to pancake when coming back into the building. 08/20/26 (Trainer Note): Valentino is laying at the back of the kennel on approach. He stands up, shakes off, and comes forward as trainer is unlocking the kennel door. His body language is loose and wiggly. He is leashed with a treat lure and taken out to the play yard. After several minutes of sniffing around he engages with the flirt pole for several rounds. His body remains loose through the entirety of this interaction. On his kennel return he would not trade for the toy at the end of the flirt pole and took it into kennel. The flirt pole was removed with a hook and he was given a replacement toy. 8/20/26: Valentino is observed to be leash biting with a staff member. Another staff member helped toss a toy or treats, but after engaging with either for a short duration, he began to leash bite again. 08/12/26 (Trainer Note): Valentino is standing in the middle of his crate with a neutral body as handler approaches. He is easily leashed and taken to the yard for a training session. As he is removed from his crate he attempts to leash bite, but handler maneuvers the leash and tosses a plush toy. He picks up the toy and holds it in his mouth the entire walk to the yard. He is not interested in trading with other toys but will trade for treats. He is brought to the behavior office where he engages with a flirt pole. He continues trading for treats, handler is working up towards the "out" cue, and is using a release word "ok" for him to interact with the flirt pole. He is returned to his crate without issue.

Summary (6):: 08/04/2026 (Trainer Note): Valentino is laying down in the middle of his crate with a neutral body as handler approaches. He is easily leashed and taken to the street for a training session. He walks on a loose leash ahead of handler, fixating on dogs on the street. Handler works on the Engage/Disengage game. Towards the end of the session Valentino is disengaging on his own (level 2). As he is being returned to the care centers he begins to pulls hard, away from the care center. He continuously baulks but continues walking with some coaxing. He is brought to the community room where he plays "polite exchange" with handler. He runs after the plush toys and will hover over them with a tense body. He is receptive to trading for treats and toys. He is returned to his crate without issue. 07/30/26 (Trainer Note): Valentino was laying at the back of his kennel on approach. When trainer began to unlock the kennel he came forward with a neutral body and soft face. He was leashed with a treat lure and walked out of the kennel room without pulling. On the street he was able to engage with both the 123 game as well as touch before working with engage disengage while visualizing another dog. He was able to walk past the dog with no reactivity and consistently checked in with handler for the duration of the training session. His kennel return was not noteworthy. KAC 07/29/26(PG Note): Valentino is lying down in his kennel and will slowly approach the front with a neutral frame, allowing the handler to leash him with ease. He will then be brought to the play yard to meet a small-breed playmate. Valentino will approach the greeting gate for a nose to nose greeting and will wag his tail while sniffing the smaller dog through the gate. Once this session is concluded, Valentino will be brought back to his kennel safely without any issues. For more information, see Dog to Dog Assessment. AH

Summary (7):: 07/24/26 (Trainer Note): Valentino is laying down at the front of his kennel with a neutral body as handler approaches. He is easily leashed and taken to the street for a training session. Valentino mildly pulled and sniffed around briefly. Handler worked on E/D with Valentino as another handler stood on the opposite side of the street. He would orient himself towards the dog, fixate, become tense, but would quickly disengage after handler used a reward marker. Successfully was able to do part 1 of E/D and was easily redirected with the use of treats. Both handlers are able to walk in close proximity of one another and Valentino remained engaged with handler, disengaging from the trigger once hearing the marker. He is returned to kennel without issue. 7/19/26: Valentino is at the front of the kennel as the handler approaches. He is leashed with ease and brought out on a walk, he will walk around sniffing and walk around with a loose frame. He is then returned to his kennel and is secured safely, 7/5/26: Valentino is sleeping ion his kuranda bed as the handler approaches the kennel. He will get up slowly and come up tot he front of the kennel to be leashed with ease. He will amble to the behavior office where his collar is clipped to a drag leash. While he is free to roam around the room, he will approach multiple handlers and will take treats from their hands gently. he will also engage with the snuffle mat and licki mats on the around. Eventually he is leashed and returned to his kennel where he is secured safely. 06/27/26: A note on the whiteboard states that on 6/23, Valentino did not want to return to the building and showed no interest in toys or treats, but the handler was able to get him back via the elevator. 6/20/26 (D2D): Valentino was lying on his bed at back of kennel. When handler opened kennel door he came forward where he was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. Valentino was taken to the play yard for a gate greet. Valentino walked very slowly to the play yard. He was aloof with handler and also his surroundings. After the gate greet he was returned to kennel with no issue. Please see D2D notes for details of the gate greet. 6/16/26 (late entry - BA): Valentino is at the front of the kennel with a neutral body as the handler approaches. He is leashed and will slowly amble out of kennel and is brought to the behavior office. Throughout the session he is slightly tense and is then leashed and returned to his kennel with no issue.
