Medically Elsa is apparently healthy What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I am playful and cute! I will need daily physical activity to keep me healthy and happy!

Summary (7):: 1/22/25: It was reported on the behavior board that Elsa refused to go back into kennel. Handlers attempted to use treats but that did not work. Handlers needed to lift and push her into the kennel. 1/20/25: Elsa is observed to be howling, heavily panting, and has 'clown face' at the front of kennel during cleaning. Handler approaches and gives her high value treat which she eats. Handler tosses enrichment toy (orange snoop) with chicken inside. Elsa begins to engage with it and ceases howling while occupied. 1/18/25: Elsa is observed to be howling at the front of her kennel even when the room is quiet. 1/17/25: Elsa is sleeping at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is offered a treat which she takes and is leashed without issue before being brought to the street for her walk. Elsa does not pull while walking and stops to use the bathroom while outside. She walks past people on the street without issue, however when spotting a dog she slightly tenses up and pulls towards them. For the rest of the dogs she sees on her walk she generally ignores them, she is then brought into the behavior office for her assessment. While being assessed, Elsa approaches handlers with a wagging tail and loose body, she trots over to handlers and tolerates petting as well as collaring. After a bit she is brought back to kennel and returns without issue. It was reported later in the day that when being returned to kennel from another walk, Elsa baulked and refused to go in, a staff member assisted in returning Elsa by lifting her back into kennel.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Elsa so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 1
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)
Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 5): Elsa displayed potential reactivity towards dogs and should go to a home with older children.
Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Elsa jumps on staff in a friendly manner. Positive reinforcement should be used to teach Elsa to her impulse control. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Anxiety: Elsa was anxious during intake and is observed to be vocal in kennel-whaling and screeching out loudly. She will need daily enrichment to help with this behavior. Please see the handout out on General Anxiety. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Elsa stares at other dogs on walks. While she has not escalate, out of precaution, she should learn to check in with her handler when she sees other dogs using positive reinforcment. Please see the handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
