Juni
Hello, my name is Juni. My animal id is #208851. I am a female gray cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 3 months 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/24/2024, with the surrender reason stated as other.
Juni is a very sweet cat who has recently developed oral ulceration and developed difficulty walking around. There is some suspicion of arthritis caused by calicivirus. Juni, so far is still eating and is responding to pain management, but she would do better outside of the shelter in a lower stress environment with more individual care.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. A volunteer writes: Cats eyes are beautiful but Juni's are unique and enthralling. Juni is all together a very attractive and full figure kitty I always visit with when I volunteer at the care center. She is a very welcoming furry fuzzy dame, a little shy and unsure at first, but a very sweet, friendly and playful one when she knows you are a friend. By history, we know that Juni is very noise sensitive and might not like to be petted or played with for too long(something we have not seen at all during her stay at the care center). She loves to play with catnip toys and feather wands, though and seems to enjoy very much our lengthy petting sessions(see video). This tells me that Juni needs a calm and experienced adopter with a gentle approach, a low traffic home with no other pets or small children and being spayed, in order to be the wonderful forever best friend I truly believe she is. Ask to meet her, see how glad she is to have a visitor, take in her beauty and may be you will fall in love just as i did. Will you give Juni a chance? She is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I have been known to shower my favorite people in love! I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles! My purr motor is always running!

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Curious
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Juni is social and affectionate but appears to have the potential to get overstimulated. As a result of the observed body language that can lead to an escalation in overstimulation, we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Juni becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Juni was resting on her bedding initially. Upon being spoken to softly, she became alert but remained calm, with relaxed eyes and ears forward. She head-bunted and leaned against the assessor's hand. Treats were offered throughout the assessment, and she ate them. Juni displayed a loose body posture with her tail held high. When picked up, she remained calm, and after being placed back down, she tolerated more attention. Juni interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate at the care center but due to noise sensitivity reported in her previous home we recommend she go home to a cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience and demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
