Animal Profile

Peanut

Hello, my name is Peanut. My animal id is #235675. I am a male orange kitten at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 months 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/11/2025, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Peanut at-risk list for medical reasons. Litter of 4 kittens that have been diagnosed with ringworm and are no longer tolerating topical treatment in shelter. These kittens need placement outside of the shelter for appropriate treatment and follow up. This kitten was also housed in the same room as a kitten with panleukopenia, with a possible exposure date of 10/15. Due to age, they have been deemed high-risk. Quarantine dates: 10/15-10/29.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver - Temporary] Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with RINGWORM and the staff veterinarians are issuing a TEMPORARY waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment through to the resolution of the issue. At the time of a full recovery you may choose to have your veterinarian perform the spay/neuter surgery, or make provisions to return the pet to ACC for sterilization.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Upon approach, Peanut was hiding behind one of his siblings, just his head was poking out. His ears were forward and eyes were wide. As the assessor reached in slowly, moving towards Peanut, his sibling jumped behind him and Peanut tried to back away. The assessor began petting Peanut on the head, in which he began to lean into. He also enjoyed cheek scratches and chin rubs as he leaned in for those too. The assessor began petting him on his back which he tolerated as he kept himself tucked next to his sibling. The assessor then picked Peanut up, which he tolerated while getting head scratches and chin rubs. He was placed back into the kennel after a few moments with no issues and he jumped back up on the ledge with two of his siblings. Peanut tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
