Professor Pudding Pants
Hello, my name is Professor Pudding Pants . My animal id is #88586. I am a desexed male white cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 10 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 2/15/2020.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.
Professor Pudding Pants is at risk for behavioral reasons. Professor Pudding Pants came to us as a stray and has not taken well to the care center environment. Professor Pudding Pants has remained fearful and has displayed distance increasing behaviors. It is worthy to note however, that he seems to like treats, and will slowly come out for them. Professor Pudding Pants would be best suited for placement with a new hope partner that can provide a low stress environment and should seek an adopter familiar with timid cats. Although Professor Pudding Pants is shy, he has shown potential for coming around if given the right space and time. Medically, he is a senior cat and has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which will need long term care.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...
A staff member writes, "Hey there, my name is Professor Pudding Pants. My name earns me lots of Brownie points, but I'm a professor nonetheless and I know a lot about pudding and pants. I know I'm cute and all, but I'm an old soul. I'm not a huge fan of people approaching me too quickly, thinking they can touch my soft coat right away. I prefer to get to know someone first before I can show them my true colors. See, the staff here is gettin' the idea. They warmed me up with treats, so I let them pet me while I eat. I might get grumpy when I run out of goodies though, but what else can you expect out of an old chap like me. If you don't mind a reserved older fella like me, I'll give you a chance if you give me one. Come by ACC today, with treats of course, and meet me today."

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 5. Red
KNOWN HISTORY:: Professor Pudding Pants was brought in however there is no information available on his behavior history in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/16/20 Hiding in den. Growls and yowls on approach. Not interested in treats or interacting. Strikes if den is approached. Gave shor-live cover, feliway and treats. Not ready to interact yet. 2/17/20 Resting in den upon approach, but becomes alert when cage cover is lifted and starts to grumble. Huffs and puffs when spoken to, and then stress meows and growls louder. Spent time with him, speaking gently. He poked his head out briefly, and then retreats back inside and re-positions himself. Still not ready to interact. 2/19/20 More huffing and puffing and stress meowing but allowed brief touches on head with finger through bars whilst eating chicken. 2/20/20 Resting inside den and took a moment to wake him up as I stroked his tail lightly. Once he woke he looked out through the den holes, but didn't vocalize. He ate treats I placed into the den, and then later poked his head out and came out to eat treats I placed by the front! Still huffs and hisses at times, but will allow gentle pets while eating treats. 2/22/20 In the den, placed treats near the door and he slowly came out to eat them, huffing at first and then giving some stress meows but eating each treat. Came forward when more treats offered in a tray, stared past me while eating. 2/23/20 Lying in his den. Hisses and huffs on approach but slowly engages when offered temptation treats and eats them in front of the assessor. Hissed at the scratcher when attempting to pet so it was not attempted and more treats were given instead. Would stress meow by the front for attention but was distracted with more temptation treats. Still stressed and fearful. Not adjusting well. 2/24/20 Resting outside of den, but starts to huff when the door opens and stress meows loudly. He quiets when offered tuna fillet treats and will eat them quietly. Although tense, he allows gentle petting on his head and body while eating. Will grumble slightly when treats run out, but quiets whenever more treats are offered. 2/27/20 Lying in his den. Comes out when spoken softly and when sniffing the temptation treats dropped near the den portal. Comes out and eats all treats without hissing or growling at the assessor. Sniffling today. Probably getting an URI.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period,Adult cat socialization
Potential challenges comments:: - Please see flyers.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Professor Pudding Pants was hiding in his den on approach. He became alert when spoken softly and started to hiss and growl. Professor swatted and started to shake when placing treats in his kennel. He slowly came out of the den when left alone and started to eat the treats offered. Professor came all the way to the front and allowed the assessor to place more treats for him while he continued to grumble. Professor Pudding Pants seems interested in interacting but is very fearful at the moment. He is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
