Animal Profile

Devon Deluxe

Hello, my name is Devon Deluxe. My animal id is #251695. I am a desexed male black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/10/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person health - medical.

Devon Deluxe is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I have lived with cats in my previous home. I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Devon Deluxe is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is very apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he does hiss and avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if he will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Devon Deluxe was brought in from a hoarding situation with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 4/18/26 FB79 At the top of the kennel, Devon is perched with tucked paws and low eyes when i greeted him; he had no reaction until i brought the tool close and he started to breathe a bit heavier. However, he tolerated all petting with the tool with no reaction but didn't have any care for the tray of treats i left him since it was still there when i checked after to give him a toy. 4/20/26 FB61 In hidey box, body and face tense, cheeks large and in charge. He raises his head to hiss softly as O pen the kennel door, however he is tolerant of petting along his head and cheeks with the scratcher tool while tilting his ears and squinting his eyes. He is rewarded with treats which he leans forward to investigate, however he remains too focused on me to engage completely. When I close the kennel door he steps forward and begins to eat all his puree! Will continue to build positive associations. 4/22/26 FB58 Hisses as the cage door is opened and hidden from view in his box. he hisses as I push his treat tray closer to him using the scratcher tool. His nose is slightly visible as he sniffs at the tray but will not eat while I am present and hisses a couple times. I leave him alone and he eventually stands to eat as I watch from afar. I later place a cage cover and he hisses as I do so. 4/26/26 FB06 As I lift the bedding up from the hidey box, Devon has his head poking out and he is hissing. As I lowly offer the scratcher, he pulls himself into the box, leaving just his tail and hind leg exposed. I use the scratcher touch his tail and foot and he continues to hiss as he pulls his tail and leg into the box now completely out of view. 4/29/26 FB58 Sitting up on the shelf with a tense face and body, low growling, eyes wide and dilated. he watches as I remove the box that has been pushed to the front of the cage. I replace it with a flip bed and offer a treat tray but don't push for an interaction and hope treats help. May need to monitor for escalation. 5/2/26 FB79 Devon is under the hidey and hissed at me when i opened the kennel door; he had no reaction when i tossed in treats with ahis eyes dilated and his ear titled. He pulled his head back to avoid eye contact when i looked in and slow blinked at him - he when i slowly brought the tool in and lowered it onto his bedding. I left it there with no movement and he watched it with wide eyes and started to low growl. 5/5/26 FB58 In his den and curled up resting, he hisses and low growls when I open the cage door and slowly place his med tray (that I've mixed squeeze up into) closer to him. I remain in front of his cage as he gets up and sniffs at the tray, he returns some before he begins to eat from the tray and I click to mark each time he eats. He still low growls whenever the tool is placed near him. 6/7/26 FB79 Under his lip bed, and lifts his head when i open the kennel door. I dont speak for a moment and he watched me closely until i greeted him with a soft voice GAN
