Shiny
Hello, my name is Shiny. My animal id is #252494. I am a desexed female brown dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 4/19/2026.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormShiny is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the Care Center, Shiny displays high stress deterioration & repetitive behaviors including spinning, pacing, vocalizing, and soiling the kennel while being unable to settle. Shiny was found running loose on the BQE and when emergency services attempted to capture her, she did bite one of them which broke skin. In the Care Center, Shiny is becoming more social outside of kennel with staff and volunteers. Despite this in kennel we are unable to break the harmful kennel syndrome behaviors for any significant amount of time that benefits Shiny. Medically, Shiny recently recovered from CIRDC and is physically healthy at this time.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Shiny bite history and fearfulness, we reccomend she be placed in an adult-only home at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Shiny came into the care center as a stray found wandering the highway. She is noted to take treats from handlers but will remain avoidant and allow minimal handling. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Shiny is noted to display fearful behavior in the care center. Always allow Shiny to approach new situations at her own pace, and never force her into uncomfortable situations. Using a calm and patient approach will help reduce her fearfulness and build her confidence. Please see the handout on the decomposition period. Bite history (human): Shiny was found running on the highway. Shiny was noted to have bitten the FDNY/EMT person when they tried to control pole her. No other details were given on the bite.
