Delilah is on the at-risk list due to medical concerns. Delilah is an elderly lady who is very sweet. Unfortunately, she is not eating due to a persistent respiratory infection. She has been started on stronger medications and supportive care. She needs continued care in a veterinary clinic to recover. She also has some elderly issues such as arthritis. Behaviorally, while initially fearful during her medical intake exam with slow approach she warmed up quickly. Delilah is easy going, calm, enjoys her walks, and greets all her visitors in the office with a loose wiggly gently greeting.

Pop Up Promo! ACC is over capacity, so I'm currently living in a pop up crate. My adoption fee is waived, and my adoption comes with a $50 Chewy gift card. This pet needs emergency placement. She does have some elderly issues such as arthritis. We have assessed that she has a persistent respiratory infection. She has been started on stronger medications and supportive care. She would benefit to have a calm and loving place while she recovers from her infection and in her old age. Behaviorally, while initially fearful during her medical intake exam with slow approach she warmed up quickly. Delilah is easy going, calm, enjoys her walks, and greets all her visitors in the office with a loose wiggly gently greeting. Meet Delilah!At 12 years young, Delilah is ready to spend her golden years surrounded by love and comfort. Found as a stray, this sweet senior girl is still getting used to her new surroundings, but she's shown us a softer side with her wagging tail and willingness to greet people. She's looking for a cozy place to call home and someone who will give her the time and patience she deserves. My Ideal HomeDelilah would love a calm, comfortable home where she can settle in at her own pace. She'd enjoy leisurely walks, sniffing around the neighborhood, and spending quality time with her favorite people. Enrichment like food puzzles and long lasting chews can keep her mind busy, too. Most of all, she's looking for someone who will make her feel safe and cherished. Good with Other Pets?Delilah showed no reaction to other dogs while walking at ACC, but we don't know much about her history with other animals. Slow, thoughtful introductions with any resident pets will help everyone get comfortable. Good with Kids?Delilah's history with children is unknown. Calm, gentle interactions and giving her space to get comfortable will help her feel at ease around new family members. Things to KnowDelilah walks with only mild pulling and readily approaches people with a soft body and wagging tail. She can feel a little unsure during hands on interactions, so it's important to let her choose when she's ready for attention and never rush her. With a peaceful home, a gentle approach, and time to settle in, this lovely senior has the chance to enjoy the comfort and companionship she deserves. Delilah's golden years could be golden indeed with you by her side!

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray, No known history

Date of assessment:: 10/6/2026

Summary:: Leash Walking Strength and pulling: Mild Reactivity to humans: None Reactivity to dogs: None Leash walking comments: Sociability Loose in room (15-20 seconds): Moderatly socail Call over: Approaches handler readily Sociability comments: soft body, wagging tail Soft handling: Accepts contact Exuberant handling: Tolerates contact Comments: Lip licks during exuberant contact Arousal Jog comments: Follows handler readily Knock Knock comments: Approaches handler readily, wagging tail Toy Toy comments: Sniffs, No reaction

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 10/17/26: Delilah is introduced to a novel intact male and sits nearby the fence with a neutral body, non reactive as the other dog walks by without acknowledging her. The other dog approaches the fence after a couple minutes and Delilah approaches remaining neutral, sniffing nose to nose through the fence and gives nub wags. The other dog walks away and Delilah sniffs towards him from a distance with slightly perked ears. The other dog returns and she sniffs nose to nose through the fence remaining neutral, redirecting her attention without issue when the other dog disengages.

Summary (7):: 10/28/26: Delilah is lying on the ground, asleep, as the handler approaches; the handler calls her name and she eventually wakes up. The handler tosses treats on the ground; as they enter the office, Delilah stands up and presents a neutral body and wagging tail. She is easily leashed and brought out the room. Delilah is walked around the block; she walks slowly and with no leash tension. She also doesn't react to any stimuli (people, dogs, construction). Delilah allows pets. Upon entry, as she is being walked to her crate, she stops walking and looks back at the handler; the handler walks slightly ahead and she walks again. Delilah is brought back to the office and place on a dragline. The interaction ends with ease. 10/25/26: Delilah is lying down in her pop-ep crate when handler approaches. The crate is opened and she wanders around the room with a loose body. A leash is easily clipped to her harness. She walks out of the room and down the hall towards the street, she passes a dog upon exit and does not react towards them. On the street, Delilah walks slowly with a loose body besides the handler. She relieves herself and occasionally stops to sniff various spots on the ground. A child runs towards her and she remains neutral and looks towards him with her body leaning back. Delilah is kept away and continues walking. A familiar staff member approaches her quickly and she flinches and ducks away. They then crouch down and try to coax her towards them. Delilah looks towards them with a lowered head and turns away to sniff. Delilah occasionally glances towards them but will then turn away and sniff the ground. The staff member then leaves and Delilah returns to presenting a loose body. She stops and sniffs around more before walking back to the shelter. She is taken back inside and approaches familiar staff members with a soft body and wagging nub tail. She allows a staff member to remove her harness and sweater. She is then left to roam around the office for awhile. Delilah approaches the handler and solicits attention. She nudges their hand and allows petting along her head and back. She then lies down at the handler's feet for awhile. Delilah is then returned to her crate without issue. 10/6/26: Delilah is at the front of her crate with a neutral body; she is easily leashed and brought out the room. Delilah walks with no leash tension and doesn't react to dogs or people. She is easily brought inside for her assessment (see notes); afterwards, she is brought to her kennel. Initially, she avoids entering, but then Delilah walks in on her own.

Date of intake:: 10/3/2026

Summary:: Allowed all handling

Date of initial:: 10/3/2026

Summary:: Tense and trembling throughout exam and tasks. Uncomfortable and repeatedly turning back to examiner

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Delilah so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 2

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: During her medical exam Delilah was observed to be tense and trembling and would look back at the handler upon contact. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Delilah would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period.
