KNOWN HISTORY:: Previously lived with: 2 adults, 1 other cat, dog, children ages 15–18 Behavior toward strangers: Friendly, outgoing, and plays gently with visitors. Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Plays gently, curious, and tolerant. Behavior toward dogs: Prefers contact on their own terms. Bite or Scratch history: Yes. On 5/28, while being petted and cuddled, Uzi suddenly turned and attacked, jumping on the owner's arms while growling, yowling, and scratching at the door. The owner was unsure of the cause. The prior owner reported experiencing unprovoked attacks from Uzi that have led them to go to the ER. Uzi has displayed some overstimulation in the shelter environment but has not been observed escalating. He has since been neutered and it is possible that being unneutered was a contributing factor, especially as the prior home had added a new cat to the home. Litter box training: History of occasionally spraying on clothes (was unneutered at the time which likely contributed, this behavior has not been observed in the shelter environment) Energy level/descriptors: Medium Other notes: Uzi is described as friendly, affectionate, talkative, aloof, bold, fearless, and independent. He spent his time indoors where the people were, including the bedroom, kitchen, living room, and by the window. He plays rough, likes to chase and pounce on toys, stalk and pounce on feet, play hide-and-seek, chase bugs and moths, and play with things that crinkle. He received interactive play once daily and enjoys scratching carpet/fabric, cardboard, and both horizontal and vertical surfaces. His owner describes him as very talkative, making them feel understood, affectionate, and enjoyable to watch by the window, calling him "a true friend." Uzi eats both wet and dry food, including Fancy Feast and Tastefuls, and sometimes enjoys human food. He cries/meows frequently, scratches the couch, and may nip or swat when pet for too long. Nail trims have never been done. He enjoys brushing but may nip during grooming, enjoys being picked up or held, and struggles or squirms when placed in a carrier. Upon intake, Uzi allowed and sought pets from staff but once they tried having him them walk into the den, Uzi became overstimulated when touched on his back and had a slight tail flick. Uzi was then eased into the cat den with constant pets. Uzi took treats.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/30/26 Vol. Was sitting right in front of his kennel when I approached. Started to scratch head with the tool and he flopped over and exposed his belly. Was then able to scratch him by hand for several minutes. Ate some tuna. Wasn’t interested in playing at this time, just wanted more pets. Sweet boy. 7/2/26 FB09 Uzi was lying in his cubby with soft, narrow eyes and forward ears. He approached the handler and started licking up the treats offered to him. He accepted extensive petting along his head and body both during and after eating. 07/06/26 FB47 Uzi was at the front of the cubby, curious and calm and came forward for treats and then out on to the shelf and quickly down into the main area for more treats and enjoyed petting but was curious about life outside the kennel and acted like he might jump out. Doing well. 7/7/26 Vol. He was curled up in his small cubby when I approached kennel but lifted his head when kennel door was opened. Had no interest in Squeeze-ups. Enjoyed several minutes of head scratching with tool. He didn’t eat his morning meal but ate a dish of tuna. He was sneezing which was already indicated on the white board. Sweet boy! 7/8/26 FB73 Uzi is laying at the front of the kennel, sitting upright as the kennel door is opened and remaining at the front of the kennel. He allows and leans into all petting, rolling over onto his side to show his belly as he is pet. He does begin to tail flick after a couple minutes but did not escalate. 7/10/26 FB20 Uzi is showing consistent signs of overstimulation at this time. They do not need socialization, these behaviors are likely to continue in a home environment and this is not an indication that this cat is under socialized. They are a cat who may be sensitive to physical or environmental stimuli. They will benefit from plenty of non-contact, interactive playtime and mental stimulation in their new home.

Potential challenges comments:: Uzi has a bite/scratch history in his prior home which includes: -History of one time becoming upset/stressed to the sound of the owner crying late at night when she came home and as a result, he attacked her -A second attack sometime later for no visible trigger -Has been observed swatting a staff member who was trying to change his litter box. He was unneutered at the time of these incidents, and this may be contributory to his behavior. Uzi is unaltered when this behavior was described. Uzi's previous owner reported he has started to spray clothing on occasion. Cats usually spray when they are trying to communicate something. Some common reasons a cat might spray include determining perimeters for other cats, to create a familiar scent in his territory, or to look for mates if they are unaltered. A cat might spray a family member’s clothing to mix scents as a way to self-soothe or to create a bond. Scent and familiarity play important roles in the feline world, so a cat may spray if they are anxious or when new objects are brought into the environment. They may also spray on belongings if the family member’s schedule or behavior has changed or if they are unsure if the person presents a threat. Having the cat altered will stop spraying behavior in almost all cases. Please speak to an adoption counselor for more information on spraying behavior.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 6/27/26 Uzi is a big “galoot” of a cat! He was at the front, sweet, friendly, and curious, loving treats and leaning in nicely for cheek rubs. He warmed up quickly, leaning in more with a high tail and enjoying all petting. He was curious and interested in possibly coming out of the kennel, and when picked up and held, he remained calm in the assessor’s arms. When set back down, he remained at the front, pushing against the assessor’s hand as if wanting either more attention or out of the kennel, or both. 7/27/26 Uzi is at the front of the kennel, sitting upright with relaxed eyes and body. When the kennel door is opened, he leans forward to sniff the assessor's hand before giving it a firm head bunt. He allows all petting, leaning in as he is pet. He is able to be easily picked up and remains calm when held. When he is placed back in the kennel, he momentarily hops out. He is able to be easily picked up and is placed back in the kennel with no issue. Uzi does display a bit of tail flicking but continues to tolerate extended petting with no escalation. Due to prior owner history (see separate notes) and a bite/scratch history we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced cat parent home.
