Due to this, his behavioral history in a home environment is unknown.Archibold presents with significant barrier frustration and high arousal around other dogs, which escalates during transitions in and out of his kennel, and attempts to kennel fight with neighboring dogs through hard barking, pulling, and fixation.During walks and time in the behavior office, Archibold shows poor impulse control when environmental changes occur, particularly when handlers move away or re enter the space. He will begin to leash bite , thrashing. Although he can be food motivated at times, he will ignore redirection when over threshold. Summary (7):: 01/30/26 (KSV): Archibold's behavior remains consistent with the previous note dated 01/29. Please refer to that note for more details. 01/29/26 (KSV): Archibold approaches the hander with a soft frame and wagging tail, curiously. Archibold will take treats from the handler before focusing on them while he consumes them. The handler walks away ending the interaction. 01/22/26: Archibold is standing at the front of his kennel and allows handler to leash with ease. Upon exiting the kennel, Archibold displays barrier reactivity toward a neighboring dog, engaging in kennel fighting behavior. Archibold is escorted to the behavior office for a relief walk. While inside the room, Archibold becomes aroused when the secondary handler exits to clean his kennel and begins leash biting toward the primary handler. When the secondary handler re-enters the room, Archibold reescalates leash biting and thrashing. When returning to kennel, Archibold again attempts kennel fight toward neighboring dogs and plants his brakes, refusing to enter the kennel. Due to lack of food responsiveness, handler utilizes stiff arm redirection to guide him into the kennel safely. During figure 8 leash removal, Archibold attempts to leash bite again but makes no contact. Archibold is secured in his kennel safely with no further issues. 1/22/26: Archibold was at front of kennel with a loose and wiggly body. When handler put leash into kennel he would immediately bit and hold on to leash, but would let go when given treats. Handler was able to leash him using spray cheese under the door and leashing while he was licking the cheese. As soon as he came out of kennel he pulled very hard to try and get to the the neighboring kennel while hard barking. In the canine behavior room he was very treat motivated retrieving treats from a puzzle feeder and snuffle mat. When returning to kennel he pulled towards the other kennels barking. 1/21/26: ACS reported that Archibold will kennel fight when coming out of his kennel to and from walks, He is noted to leash bite and tries to go back to the neighboring kennels.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): We reccomend Archibold be placed in an adult-only home at this time. Single-pet home/Recommend no dog park: Due to Archibold's dog reactivity, we reccomend he be placed as the only dog in the home and no dog parks. Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Leash-biting,Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Archibold jumped up often during his handling assessment and we recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Handling/touch sensitivity: Archibold's paw currently has a healing wound. There is a possibility that he may have some sensitivities with his paws. Positive reinforcement, reward-based training should be used to pair touch with good things, such as food rewards in order to teach him to be more comfortable with this. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Archibold has been reported to kennel fight when taken out of kennel and reactive to other dogs during walks. Please see handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Leash-biting/Low threshold for arousal: Archibold displays kennel fighting behaviors toward neighboring dogs, including hard barking, pulling, and fixation.He is prone to leash biting, thrashing, when environmental changes occur, such as handlers entering or exiting a room.These behaviors suggest a low threshold for arousal, combined with fear and potential defensive aggression when overstimulated. Training should focus on reducing trigger exposure, using controlled, low-arousal transitions, and reinforcing calm behavior while gradually desensitizing him to movement and environmental changes. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Leash-biting/Low threshold for arousal.
