Double Dutch is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Double Dutch has displayed intense and persistent leash biting both during walks and when returning to his kennel. In the care centers, Double Dutch has been intensely leash biting when being leashed, while on walks, and when returning to his kennel. He can be difficult to redirect and will often return to biting the leash after briefly engaging with treats or toys. As a result, we recommend Double Dutch is placed with one of our New Hope Partners.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: approx 3-7 years based on dentition and conformation Microchip noted on Intake? scanned negative History: agency Subjective: BAR Observed Behavior - staff able to leash and bring into exam room, persistent leash biting, jumping up in the air trying to make contact with leash, needed double rope and syringe pole to sedation Is there evidence of suspected cruelty? Summary:: Double Dutch arrived at the care centers as a stray, so his behavior with other dogs is unknown. 8/8/26: 8/13/26: Double Dutch greets a novel female dog through a barrier. Double Dutch approaches displaying a tense body, lip licking, and begins to growl. As the novel female begins barking, Double Dutch barks in return and is moved away from the barrier. Once moved away, his hackles raise and he begins to mark while remaining aroused by the interaction.

Summary (7):: 08/09/26: Double Dutch is standing at the front of his kennel and will begin leash biting as the handler attempts to place the leash over his head. The handler will offer treats, which Double Dutch will initially ignore. He will then be brought out of the kennel with a toy, which he will hold in his mouth for several seconds before releasing. The handler will repeatedly pick up and re-toss the toy to redirect his focus away from the leash. When Double Dutch is brought back inside and returned to his kennel, he will begin intense leash biting and will not release the leash. A second handler will scatter a large amount of chicken to redirect his attention, allowing him to release the leash. The n the first handler will then safely remove the leash and lock Double Dutch’s kennel without further issues. 8/08/2026: Double Dutch is at the front of the kennel door jumping up in excitement as the handler approaches. The handler displayed treats and dropped some for Double Dutch however he was not interested. Two separate plush toys were also displayed for Double Dutch however he did not take to grabbing them either. Double Dutch was still leashed and brought out of the kennel and went out for a walk. Double Dutch walked while pulling on the leash moderately. The treats and toys were displayed for Double Dutch while on the walk however he was aloof to both options. Double Dutch walked back to the kennel with no issues however, when Double Dutch entered the kennel he instantly turned around and started leash biting intensely and would not let go for either options of a treat or toy. dropping the leash was the only option for him to lose interest. 8/08/2026: ACS staff have reported Double Dutch to be intensively leash biting both going back to kennel and while on walks. ACS staff have tried using both treats and toys but reported that most of the time these options work but, Double Dutch often goes straight back to leash biting and losing interest in both the toy and left over treats. 08/08/26 (PG): Double Dutch is at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He is leashed with ease and brought outside. While walking to the play yard, Double Dutch jumps up and attempts to leash bite three times, but never successfully gets the leash. After his interaction, he is brought back inside. When passing another dog, he barks until the dog is out of sight. Then, when returning to kennel, Bronco grabs the leash and starts pulling it into the kennel. The leash gets caught on the door, and the handler uses multiple handfuls of treats to get him to drop the leash and maneuver it out of the door.
