While outside, Bruno walks slowly. When a jogger passes, Bruno pulls towards the jogger. He continues his walk and shows no interest in treats. He is brought back inside and returned to his kennel with no issue. 6/4/26: Bruno is standing at the back of his kennel as handler approaches. Summary (7):: 6/1/26: Bruno is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He lunges and jumps up at door while hard barking as the handler unlocks it. He is able to jump down and eat treats the handler tosses inside. He retreats to the back of his kennel with a tense body as the handler opens the door a presents their leash. He would lower and turn his head away as the handler lassos him. He is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, he has a loose and wiggly body as he walks ahead of the handler. He would stare at people and dogs nearby and is able to be redirected with treats. He pulls on the way back to his kennel and is able to enter with no issues. 5/28 (late entry): Due to how soiled his kennel is, handlers attempt to remove Bruno from his kennel. Bruno begins growling when hearing the door open. He is standing in the middle of his town when two men. When offered treats, Bruno lunges at the kennel door with his teeth bared, growling. He pauses briefly to sniff the treats before accepting with a moderate amount of pressure. The pressure lessens as the one Handler continues to feed him treats while the second unlocks the kennel door. Bruno retreats to the back of his kennel, continuing to growl when presented with the lead. He dodges and whips the lead off when touched, taking several attempts before successfully being leashed. In between attempts, Bruno will attempt to scale the back corner of his kennel wall seeking an exit. The handlers continue to feed him treats, upping the value to sliced cheese and chicken, which he does readily accept but continues to dodge. A second leash cannot be placed due to him beginning to thrash on the first one. He pushes on the kennel door, and he's allowed to exit. As he steps out of the kennel, the second Handler attempts to place their leash on him, but he hides in front of the first Handler, placing himself between their body and the door to the room. The first Handler opens the door, and he walks to the behavior office while his kennel is cleaned. In the office, he pants and paces but continues to take treats, so he is given a lick mat and a snuffle mat to engage with. Bruno readily engages with both enrichment items and perks when he hears and sees squeaky toys. He bounds after the toys and tennis balls, but does not engage further with them as he returns to either the snuffle mat or the lick mat. Once his kennel is cleaned, he is returned to the kennel; he enters without issue. The hook is used to remove the lead, although he does Duck and Dodge the hook, but does not escalate.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Bruno so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Kennel presence

Potential challenges comments:: Kennel presence/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: On intake, Officer mention that Bruno attempted to bite and nipped male officers. When prompted further, they told staff that the dog was comfortable with the female officer, though tried biting and nipping the male officers. Upon intake, the dog was brought in by the female officer and traded over to another staff member. The dog exhibited fearful behavior, stiff bodied and uncertain. When slipping the slip lead over his head, the dog was avoidant, trying to back out of the leash. When bringing the scanner over, the dog tolerated it for about a minute before curling his lip and backing away, showing whale eye, and thus ceasing any further attempt at scanning for a chip. When staff brought the dog over to pre-exam, the dog was still unsure, looking behind him every once in a while to keep an eye on the staff member following far behind. While walking, the staff member handling the dog was able to clip the slip lead easily. When putting the dog into its kennel, the dog planted its paws at the entrance unwilling to go in. Bruno is noted to be hard barking, lunging at the front of the kennel gate, with a very stiff posture and a hard stare.
