Summary:: According to Greycy's previous owner(s), Greycy is tolerant of other dogs. 7/25/26: Greycy is introduced to a novel intact female and approaches the gate with a tense body and high wagging tail. The other dog rubs on the fence and he loosens his body and sniffs her with an outstretched neck and perked ears. He disengages and sniffs around the yard, greeting handlers. The other dog is let into the yard and he flags over to her with a tense held tall body and high wagging tail. After a few seconds of mutual sniffing, he begins bouncing and zooms across the yard. He reapproaches and the other dog lays down displaying her belly, he sniffs her genitals and then play bows and jumps back. The two engage in rough and rowdy play, Greycy occasionally stands over her and is sexually motivated but will frequently disengage and continue to barrel into her instead. He is tolerant of the other dog knocking into him hard and will play slap her in return and jump over her. He creates space on his own, taking appropriate breaks and reapproaches remaining loose with a relaxed open panting mouth.

Summary (5):: 7/25/26: Greycy is at the front of his kennel with a loose body; he is easily leashed, and before the handler brings him out, they present some treats, which he shows interest in. As the handler walks Greycy out the room, they toss treats onto the ground; Greycy eats them as he exits. Before and during the elevator ride, Greycy follows the sit command and eats a tossed treats. The handler brings Greycy to the yard for playgroup (see dog-dog notes). Before the interaction, Greycy relieves himself. Afterwards, the handler clips their leash and walks Greycy to his kennel; he pulls hard but enters his kennel on his own.

Summary (6):: 7/11/26: Greycy is lying down at the back of his kennel when handler approaches. He slowly gets up, comes closer to the front and does body shake. He is easily leashed and taking out of the kennel. He pulls very hard all the way out of the room and attempts to jump on pop-up crates in the hallways. Once in elevator, he is heavy panting and is searching for an exit. Greycy pulls hard all the way outside towards the gates. He sniffs certain spots and after some time relieves himself. He continues walking ahead of the handler with moderate leash tension. When Greycy sees another dog he will hard stare at them but handler is able to distract him with recall. Greycy doesn't react towards other people passerby. Greycy is social and engaging in pattern games Up/Down and Look at That. He gently takes offered treats as a rewards and allows petting. His body remains neutral with soft face. During returning handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Greycy back into his kennel with no further issues. 7/10/26: It is reported via white board that Greycy pulls hard during the walk and needs harness. 7/7/26: 7/7/26: Greycy is at the front of the kennel with a loose body and wagging tail. He is jumping up and down pressing his snout against the kennel door. Greycy is leashed with a treat lure. He pulls very hard and is taken downstairs towards the street. He relieves himself a few times and will pull towards people with a forward posture, his face neutral. When Greycy observes other dogs he looks at them with a tense body and with a wide stance. He is walked back to the shelter and taken to the assessment office. Greycy jumps up on the handlers exuberantly. After, his assessment Greycy is easily re-leashed and pulls very hard back to kennel. He is returned without issue. 7/4/26: Greycy is at the front of his kennel with a wiggly body as the handler approaches; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. while waiting for the elevator, Greycy jumps on and off the handle with a loose body. On the street, Greycy walks with moderate leash tension; he doesn't react to people or dogs. Greycy engages with the handler; he takes treats, sits on command, and allows pets. Upon entry, a familiar handler speaks to Greycy, but he walks past them. The handler clips their leash and returns Greycy to his kennel.

Summary (7):: 6/27/26: Greycy is at the front of his kennel with loose body when handler approaches. He is easily leashed and taking out of the kennel. He pulls very hard while exiting the room and attempts to jump on pop-up crates in the hallways. He sits next to the handler in elevator. Greycy pulls hard all the way outside and once he gets to the street he immediately relieves himself. He continues pulling ahead of the handler making himself coughing due to leash tension. When he sees another dog he hard stares at them and starts lip licking but handler is able to distract him with treats. Greycy doesn't react towards other people passerby. He is social with handler and allows petting. His body remains loose. During returning handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Greycy back into his kennel with no further issues. YK 6/26/26: It is reported via whiteboard that Greycy walked pass by multiple dogs and didn't show any reactivity towards them. YK 6/22/26: It was noted on the board that Greycy pulls hard and needs a harness. 6/14/26 (Assessment): Greycy is standing at front of kennel as handler approached. He is easily leashed and taken for a brief walk before his behavior assessment. While on he walk he pulled hard at times. He saw a few dogs and had not reaction to them, but one dog that he saw on the other side of the garage thru stack equipment he low growled where the handler felt the growl thru the leash. During the walk he jump on handler a few times. He was returned to kennel with no issue. 6/12/26: Greycy is standing in with a neutral body; the handler tosses treats into kennel and calls his name in a baby voice. He is easily leashed and brought out the room. On the street, Greycy walks with mild leash tension; he doesn’t react to dogs or people. Greycy socializes with the handler; presenting a soft body, he takes treats and leans into the handler as they pet him. The handler brings Greycy inside to the office. There, he walks back and forth; he also jumps onto the handler’s lap for pets, and then lies himself on the floor. When an unfamiliar handler slowly enters the room, Greycy stands up, and barks and growls at them; he doesn’t continue after they left. The handler then brings Greycy to his kennel; at first, he doesn’t enter on his own, but the handler adds some leash tension and brings him into kennel.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Greycy is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Greycy.

Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Greycy was observed to become tense and hovered over a toy in his possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Greycy's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Basic Manners: Greycy has been observed to jump up on handlers. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Fearful: Greycy was observed to become tense during his assessment, noted to head whip during contact. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Greycy would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. On Leash Reactivity: During intake, Greycy was observed to lunge towards the handler and another person that was walking in the lobby. While on leash Greycy was observed to growl when seeing another dog. Greycy will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than dogs and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
