Medically, Romi is apparently healthy. **Meet Romi!** **Surrendered due to his family deploying abroad for military service,** this handsome one-year-old pup is looking for a second chance with a patient, dog-savvy adopter. Romi lived previously with adults, children, and another dog and was described as high-energy, playful with kids, and tolerant with other dogs he knew. But like many young, energetic dogs, Romi still needs structure, confidence-building, and guidance-especially around food and unfamiliar people. 🏡 My Ideal Home Romi needs an experienced adult-only home with a calm environment and consistent routines. His future family should respect his need for slow introductions and be willing to continue working with him on basic training and confidence. He's shown great progress in our care and is ready to keep learning! A home without a lot of guests or foot traffic would suit him best. 👶 Good with Kids? Romi is recommended for adult-only homes. While he was described as playful with kids in his previous home, his bite history means he's not suitable for a home with children. 🐶 Good with Other Pets? Romi lived with another dog and has shown friendly, tolerant behavior with dogs he knows. In the shelter, he's shown soft body language and appropriate greetings with other dogs. A slow, structured introduction to any resident dogs would be needed. He has no known experience with cats. 🦮 Leash Manners Romi can pull on leash, especially with new handlers, and he's a strong boy! With familiar handlers, he walks at a relaxed pace and enjoys exploring his environment. Ongoing leash training will help improve his focus and control outdoors. 🩺 Overall Health Romi is medically healthy and up to date on vaccines. He was treated for a mild upper respiratory infection (kennel cough) shortly after intake, which has since resolved completely. He is not yet neutered. 🧠 Behavior Determination: Level 4 Romi is a smart, sensitive dog who's made great strides with our behavior team. He's learning the "leave it" cue and has responded beautifully to positive reinforcement training. In his previous home, he had a single bite incident when a stranger abruptly took his food away.

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Upon intake the dog was shy and stayed around the client. When staff gave him treats and had a slow approach he started to walk towards staff. He didn't allow staff to MC due to being sensitive to fast movements and being really fearful at the time. He allowed the client to rope him. He let staff walk him to the kennel, but looked back when staff tried to clip. Staff were able to clip and place him inside the kennel with no issues.

(See Dog-Dog Summary for more details). Romi is brought back to his kennel where he does whine at other dogs that pass, but is otherwise easy to place back into kennel without issue. 7/26/25: I've taken Romi on several walks and he’s been highly social and affectionate. He always greets me in his kennel with tail wags and excitement. I recently took him to the yard and he quickly scooped up a soft soccer ball toy lying on the grass and zoomed around with it, happy as can be. He came bouncing up to me when I called him over and did lots of wiggles and waggles as I scratched his back, then plopped on his side and lounged out on the grass when I gave him ear scratches. Then he was back on his feet and playing with his toy. He also sat when I asked and nicely took the treat I offered as a reward. He’s just a big sweet puppy! 07/24/25 (Trainer Note): Romi is at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and pulls moderately to the Live Room, stopping to pee along the way. When inside, Romi is clipped to a drag leash and he is given a snuffle mat. Romi allows the handler to approach and retreat to receive more reinforcement. Romi can orient to the handler as they approach with a loose body and a wide tail wag. The handler marks Romi with a yes and he receives more reinforcement. Romi knos the cue for sit and bgeins to be lured into a down. The hander and Romi continue work on the cue leave it and Romi can leave a treat on the floor. When the session is over, he is re leashed and headwhips when the handler unclips his collar. Romi is safely returned to his kennel. 07/16/25 Romi is standing on his kennel door with a loose wiggly frame as the handler approaches. Romi is easily leashed as he drops to all fours, proceeding outside for a walk. Romi maintains a soft, wiggly frame as he rubs his body against the handler's legs as they exit the building simultaneously. Romi maintains a soft, wiggly frame while maintaining a relaxed pace on the walk. Romi is consistent with his pace, exploring the sidewalk during his walk as well as relieving himself. He is returned to the facility where he will enter the building as well as his kennel with no issue. 07/15/25 (Trainer Note): Romi is standing at the front of his kennel with a loose body as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and pulls mildly to the canine training room. He allows the handler to attach a drag leash and leans into contact with a soft body.
