Animal Profile

Stacy

Hello, my name is Stacy . My animal id is #220817. I am a female gray cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 6 months 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 2/18/2025.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Stacy is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and is deteriorating in the Adoptions room. She is now displaying signs of frustration. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. A volunteer writes: The way to Stacy's heart is with treats--at least that's what we discovered when this gorgeous girl found her way to the Care Center not long ago. At first she seemed standoffish, but once our staffers brought out the Squeeze-ups, Party Mix, and chicken, Stacy emerged from her hidey spot and revealed her mellow, affectionate side. With her belly full, she even leaned into cheek and chin scratches, closing her eyes in comfort and confidence. Our behavior team found her to be calm, sweet, curious, and with an independent streak. And though we don't know her backstory, it seems this regal beauty was well socialized with people. Stock your fridge with yummy snacks, then come on up to 110th Street and introduce yourself to Stacy today!

Behavior Condition: 5. Red

KNOWN HISTORY:: Stacy was brought in with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/25/25 Vol. I slightly lifted blue shoreline. Hissed. Lying down slightly curled body, facing me & hissed. I left dry treats & piece of chicken close to portal door in kennel that she is not in. And placed a tray with squeeze up mousse close to front door. Came halfway into kennel to eat treats. But went back into other kennel as I was closing front door with scratcher tool in hand. 2/26/25 Vol. Stacy was resting in loaf position in kennel. Her eyes were neutral, and she returned slow blinks. She hissed once when offered party mix on scratcher tool, then immediately ate the treats. After eating party mix, she allowed petting on head with scratcher tool and then hand. Still lying down in kennel, she gently leaned into cheek and chin scratches and closed her eyes. 2/28/25 Vol. Meatloafed in second cage behind shor-line screen, close to front - peering out, eyes round. Put in treat bowl - ignored it, remained meatloafed. Allowed head scratches with tool and transitioned quickly to head scratches with hand. She remained sitting, putting head down for scratches, looking up slowly if stopped. Gave plenty of scratches and sweet talk and ended interaction. She got up to eat treats. 3/2/25 Vol. Resting in kennel behind privacy cover. Stood up to eat treats at the front through the bars. Allowed head scratches with my hand with the door open while eating, but did not lean in or seek further attention when I stopped. Ignored chicken, but loved Party Mix and other dry treats.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Calm,Sweet,Curious,Skittish,Independent

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children

Recommendations comments:: No young children under 12yrs.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Stacy was hissing and sitting upright on her bedding upon approach. When spoken to softly, she became curious, scanning the room. At the back, she watched from afar and slowly lifted her front leg, soft pawing at the scratcher tool when an attempt was made to pet her. After a slow approach, she lowered her head and laid down, allowing pets along her head and body with the scratcher tool. She closed her eyes and remained calm. When offered treats, she low grumbled while eating. Wary with sudden movements, Stacy then allowed brief pets along the head with the assessor's hand. The assessment was ended to reduce her stress, as she continued to low grumble. Stacy tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
