Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A volunteer writes: I had such a great time with Luna Lovegood! After our pleasant stroll around the block, Luna L and I sat down for a talk and some petting on a bench. I just caressed her head and face. Luna L seemed to like it. In the street, we neared in a civil way other pooches, and she did not (for me and other volunteers) go after birds and pigeons. She is such a pretty gal with bright and clever eyes, smartly dressed in a salt and pepper coat, trim and all together, an elegant dame. Luna L truly revealed herself, leash free in the yard. The smart girl spotted some new balls left on a bench, got hold of one of them and started to play on her own. And me, me??? I want to play too!!! Luna Lovegood agreed and the game started. Oh, she loves her toys, she could play for ever, running and jumping after a tennis ball, always catching it and bringing it toward me. Although she never released it into my hand, she did not mind me caressing her while she was chewing on it. I forgot to say that Luna L sits beautifully on command, lays down, comes right away upon request or hops on a chair. Luna L is very obedient. She also takes treats very gently from the hand. Well, in a nutshell, we had a blast together. She is such a spirited gal and I so hope that soon enough, she will meet the Sheppie lover who will steal her heart. Luna Lovegood is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.

Place with a New Hope partner: Due to handling sensitivity displayed at the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity

Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity: Luna Lovegood has displayed handling sensitivity at the care center, giving appropriate warning signals when uncomfortable by raising her lip. It is important to always go slow and give Luna Lovegood the option to walk away from any social interaction. Her warnings should be closely observed and listened to. Luna Lovegood should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Luna Lovegood’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Luna Lovegood may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings.
