Mondelez

Hello, my name is Mondelez. My animal id is #267560. I am a male white dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 10/7/2026.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Mondelez is at risk due to behavioral reasons. During his time in the care center, Mondelez has been noted to jump up onto the handler and lock his paws onto their waist when they attempt to return him to kennel. Recently, while out with a handler, he began jumping up and nipping the handler on the back, ultimately biting them on their shoulder blade. This bite did not break skin. With handlers, Mondelez is receptive to contact and will lean into the handler. Medically, Mondelez is on treatment for CIRDC.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. Mondelez came into ACC as a stray, Because of this we do not know how he is in a home environment. During his time in the care center, Mondelez has been noted to be jump up onto handler and lock his paws onto their waist when they attempt to return him to kennel. He had to be straight armed away from the handler. This behavior has been hard to redirect. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Mondelez so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Mondelez fearfulness and mouthy behavior, we reccomend his is placed in a home with No children (under 13). We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Mondelez is noted to take treats with hard pressure. this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Mondelez's teeth make contact with skin). Please see hand out on Mouthiness. Fearful: Mondelez has been noted to be fearful when returning to kennel. It is important to always go slow and give Mondelez the option to walk away from any social interaction. Mondelez should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Mondelez’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Mondelez would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. please see hand out on Fearfulness
