Griswald is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. We suggest that Griswald is best suited to a dog experienced home.

A volunteer writes: Your "Christmas Vacation" is likely to go much smoother than our Griswald's namesake with this 7 year-old sweetheart by your side. And really, even if your holiday does take a turn into a flood of rambunctious family members, epic plumbing snafus, furry feline disasters, and one very burned down tree, I'm confident with this face gazing up at you all will still seem right with the world. Griswald easily hops out of his kennel, shaking out some stiffness in his back legs before joining me out in the snow. Is he happy about so much of the white stuff raining down upon us? Well, no. Or about as happy as his soggy volunteer. But he puts on brave face and gives me plenty of wags while we finish our wintry photo shoot. And oh, when Gris spots a pup in a neighboring pen! Well, he lights up brighter than the Rockefeller tree. And as he munches savory snacks from the palm of my hand, it's almost like the warm sun is shining. Griswald comes to us as a stray, so much of his past is unknown. He is a tiny little nugget who could definitely benefit from a few extra holiday cookies, and also the love of a family -- no matter how rambunctious -- that will make every one of his days feel like Christmas. So ready yourself for this holiday season by having your very best friend at your side. One who'll warm your home and your heart through any amount of snow, and make every last day feel like Christmas. Griswald is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan ACC.

Hx: Diagnosed with CIRDC on 12/16/17. Reported not eating 12/18. S: Lying down in kennel, not interested in getting up O: Mild SND, no coughing or sneezing A: CIRDC, poor appetite, poor energy level P: 1. Extend Cerenia x2 more days 2. Give 750 ml LRS SQ SID x2 days 1088

Yesterday he was noted to be lethargic and inappetant; was started on SQF and cerenia course extended S/O -QAR/BAR, standing at front of kennel today and wagging tail but is still less energetic than normal -serous nasal discharge, no coughing or sneezing noted during observation -good appetite today -appears eupnic A 1. CIRDC 2. Inappetance-resolved 3. Lethargy, improved P CWCT Monitor closely over the next 2-3 days to ensure that energy level continues to improve

Sensitivity:: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog's mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag:: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft.
Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Eyes are averted and ears are relaxed or back.

Summary:: Griswald approached the assessor in the assessment room when coaxed. He allowed all handling, and attempted to mount the assessor. During toy, he persistently attempted to mount the assistant.
Summary:: Griswald has displayed social, gently playful behavior toward female dogs. Behavior around male dogs has not yet been observed. The behavior team feels Griswald may be most compatible with gently playful female dogs. Follow up on behavior around male dogs should be conducted at a slow pace to respectful, socialized dogs.

Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used to teach Griswald to remain calm when people and other exciting things are around. He should be rewarded with treats when calm. If he begins mounting, people should immediately walk away from and separate themselves from Griswald.
