Let's get to know each other a bit more...
This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Mr. Worldwide is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Upon his arrival in care Mr. Worldwide was observed to be fearful. During intake he was noted to bite the handler when they attempted to scam him for a microchip. This was a bite and release that did not break skin. When handlers first attempted attempt to interact with Mr. Worldwide he was observed to be tense, seek exit, and have a tucked tail. Additionally, Mr. Worldwide has been observed to be vocalizing in kennel during quiet hours. With time and a slow approach Mr. Worldwide has shown increased sociability, recently noted to approach staff in Care Center with loose, wiggly body, and soliciting contact. Medically, Mr. Worldwide is being treated for CIRDC.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Mr. Worldwide so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 4
Recommendations:: No children (under 13)
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the bite history and fearful behavior observed we recommend an adult only home.
Potential challenges: : Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Leash-biting,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful Defensive: During intake Mr. Worldwide was observed to bite the handler on the wrist, snap at the handler multiple times and thrash while on leash. It is important to move slowly with Mr. Worldwide, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Bite History (Human): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression. Leash Biting: During intake Mr. Worldwide was observed to start leash biting. Mr. Worldwide is quick to grab the leash in their mouth. We recommend walking them with a toy to dissuade them from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach them to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
