KNOWN HISTORY:: Casa was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. He has previous lived with another cat. Upon intake Casa was shut down and fearful. He was handled minimally.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/12/26 FB61 Hunched in back of kennel, body and face tense with his tail curled around his feet. He hisses when I reach towards him with the scratcher tool and he backs away I pet him on his head and shoulders. After I close the kennel door I leave him a catnip toy and he shows immediate interest. He begins to act silly while rubbing his cheeks all over and rolling back and forth. Play time will help him build confidence! Needs more time to adjust. 6/16/26 FB61 Hunched in back of kennel, body and face tense with his tail wrapped tightly around his body. He hisses and shifts his weight as I open the kennel door and he is tolerant of petting with the scratcher tool while flattening his ears completely and hissing again. I keep the hands-on portion of the interaction brief as to reduce stress and the possibility of creating a negative association with touch. He softens and leans forward when offered a catnip toy and a treat and he eats his treats and begins to roll around after I've closed the kennel door. Will continue to build positive associations. 6/23/26 FB61 Lying on top of kuranda bed, body and face relaxed upon very initial approach. He hisses when petting is attempted and is tolerant of touch with the scratcher tool while shrinking away, flattening his ears and squinting his eyes. I cannot clicker train him because he does not eat his treats while I am in front of his kennel. He eats the treats after I've closed the kennel door, and he (as per usual) enjoys the toy offerings. 7/08/26 FB61 In front of kennel, body and face relaxed as he makes eye contact with a soft expression and begins leaning against the kennel door. He even begins to vocalize softly! I'm shocked... when I open the kennel door he leans in briefly before squinting his eyes, backing away and retreating to the other side of his kennel! I gave him his treats and toys to end the session on good note. Although they are still wary of hands and petting... there was no hissing today... I think they are beginning to warm up!!! 7/11/26 FB47 Casa lays under the Kuranda bed/under Migos. His body is relaxed but quickly tenses when I open the kennel door. I offer him a treat but he is not interested. I sit and talk to him, his body relaxes, he moves around slightly to get comfortable again. 7/12/26 FB47 Today Casa has secured the top spot on the Kuranda bed. His face and body are relaxed as I sit in front of the kennel with the door open but tense when people enter the room. Today when I offer him dry treats he happily accepts and eats in front of me. Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Casa would do best in an home with no young children under 13 years old.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 6/1/26 Upon approach, Casa was crouched down at the back of the kennel, eyes wide, ears turned outward. As the kennel door opened, Casa hissed and lip licked as he kept his focus on the open door. When the scratcher slowly approached he had no interest. He tolerated some head and body pets as he remained still, crouched in a “ready to dart” position. No pick up was attempted at this time. 7/2/26 Upon approach, Casa is at the front of the kennel upon approach. He has a neutral expression and forward ears, seemingly curious. When the door is slowly opened, he quickly retreats to the opposite side of their double kennel. Treats are placed down at the den opening and he comes forward again, tentatively sniffing them. When the assessor offers their hand, he flinches back harshly. He tolerates petting with a scratcher tool on his head and along his body, though continues trying to move away from the tool and his body remains tense. 8/2/26 Now residing in a Free Roaming Room, Casa is resting on one of the high vertical spaces. He initially hisses when the assessor approaches. him. The assessor steps back, slow blinking and speaking softly to him until he settles. His tense, crouched body relaxes into a looser resting position and he begins returning a few slow blinks. The assessor places treats in front of him, and he leans forward and begins to eat them. When a hand is held out for him to sniff, he swats at it once, without claws. A tool is then used to pet along his head and back. He tolerates the touch but tenses, curling his tail around himself and lip-licking. 9/2/26 Upon approach, Casa is sitting inside one of the hidey beds. He watches the assessor with a hard stare, his body crouched and ears neutral. He accepts dry treats that are tossed to him, and becomes engaged with a wand toy the assessor has, following it with his eyes. He leaves the hiding spot and stretches, attempting play for a few moments! He then retreats back to the bed. He tolerates touch on his face and back with a scratcher tool, but backs away from it repeatedly, curling his tail around himself. He shows no defensive behaviors. As long as his boundaries are respected, he remains calm with the assessor sitting beside him. Casa tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced cat home.
