Fluffy
Hello, my name is Fluffy. My animal id is #238335. I am a desexed male white cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 12 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 10/2/2025, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

They prefer contact on their own terms, and would do best with an experienced cat owner who can give them the time and the space to decompress and be their best self.

Fluffy has scratched the owner recently, but has consistently exhibited behavioral problems towards them. It is noted that Fluffy is "triggered when being told no". The behavior team wants to make a note here that cat’s don’t understand English and Fluffy was likely reactive due to being yelled at in general, causing a fear based defensive aggression type of response. ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/08/25 FB06 Upon approach, Fluffy is hidden in his den. As I approach the den with the scratcher, he has no reaction to it. Once I reach the portal door with it he swats the scratcher. I move it more towards him and he swats again harder. I removed the scratcher and dropped some treats in the cage. When I walked away and returned he had his head out of the den and he was sniffing in the direction of the treats. 10/11/25 FB79 Inside of the den, FLuffy is out of sight and when i start to lift the den cover he quickly pokes his head out and has wide eyes with forward ears; he seems tense as he watches closely with dilated eyes and hisses when i speak softly and tries to avoid eye contact when i attempt to bend down some more. He lip licks continuously and his ears slightly start to tilt sideways as he has no reaction when i place a tray of treats in front of him and hisses at my hand as i hold it there briefly. 10/14/25 FB61 Hunched in front of cat den, body and face tense with his feet and tail tucked. He hisses and begins lunging at his perch as I open the portal door, however he settles down when offered a temptation treat. I spend the remainder of the session clicking and rewarding with another treat each time he remains in his seated position without hissing or striking when spoken to. He also plays with his toy when offered as well, after hissing and trying to swat at me.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,Adult cat socialization
Potential challenges comments:: Fluffy was described as never being around other people besides his owner in his previous home. It is likely that Fluffy is an under-socialized adult cat. Please see behavior flyer for more information.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Fluffy was in his cat den as the assessor approached, body and face initially hidden from view. Fluffy poked his head out of his den to maintain eye contact with the assessor when spoken to, his ears tilted and his pupils dilated. Fluffy retreated back into his den as the kennel door opened and he tolerated petting along his head and body briefly with the assess-a-hand before turning his head, hissing and biting it. Fluffy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He/she has tried to swat / scratch / bite / is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time. He may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed.
