Police responded to a call from an individual reporting that their dog, Kane, had bitten them and that they no longer wished to keep the animal.Officers reported that the owner was attempting to crate Kane when the dog turned and nipped at their face. The bite was a quick bite and release, resulting in a small cut like wound on the side of the owner's face that broke the skin.Further information was gathered from the owner regarding the incident. They stated they had Kane for approximately three weeks and that this was the first and only time Kane had bitten them. The owner also described a separate incident during an argument in the home. As they were leaving the room, Kane appeared to react to their emotional state. He lifted his paw and then bit the owner on the right leg. This bite was also a bite and release, leaving 1-2 puncture wounds that broke the skin. The owner sought medical treatment for the injury. Kane has shown social and affiliative behavior with handlers in the shelter, readily accepting treats, leaning in for contact, and soliciting further interaction. He has allowed leashing, handling, and collaring without issue, and demonstrates loose, wiggly body language during positive engagements. While he has presented as affiliative and tolerant with staff in shelter, Kane's history indicates potential risk in stressful or emotionally charged environments. He will require placement with a New Hope partner experienced with dogs who have a bite history and a need for behaviorally informed handling, management, and decompression in a safe, stable environment.

He follows the treats down to the ground before the handler leashes him. He is then walked to the play yard as his kennel is cleaned. Due to not being collared, he is kept on the slip lead. Kane will lean into the handler's legs, accepting along his back, sides, and neck. He readily accepts treats and will wander away to sniff scents before returning to the handler.
