This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. A volunteer writes: Is it us, or was Coco born to wear dresses? Just look at this pretty girl serving looks and sitting demurely in her Halloween ensemble! Coco was described as "wiggle bodied" in her intake notes, and we'd have to concur. A lover of cookies, Coco wiggles up in front of me to politely relieve me of my stash. She sits when asked and even gives us a little twirl! While Coco's first love may be food (relatable), she's also very happy to get butt rubs and to prop herself up against me to get pet some more. Coco has all the makings of a wonderful family pet, and it seems that in her past life that's exactly what she was. Coco's previous guardian says she is friendly and outgoing with strangers, and relaxed with kids. She even lived with a 5 year old in the past though she is recommended for a home with older kids for now. Coco is also reported to be relaxed and playful with dogs, playing gently. During her gate greeting with a novel male she briefly greeted, checked in with handlers and ignored the other dog after that. Coco will need a regular schedule to work on her house breaking, as well as a home that is comfortable with reported separation anxiety behaviors. Apply to meet this gray beauty today! What my friends at ACC say about me: I lived with children in my previous home. I have lived with dogs. My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have been known to shower my favorite people in love! I am playful and cute!

Potential challenges: : House soiling,Destructive behavior,Separation anxiety,Strength/leash pulling,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: House Soiling: Coco is noted to have accidents in the house, and will likely need guidance with house training. Accidents should never be punished as this will likely make the problem worse. We recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training only. Destructive Behavior: Coco is noted to detroy household items when left alone in the home. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Coco will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so he can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. Bite History (human): Coco's previous owner reported that she bit someone in May of 2021. Details regarding the incident was not provided. Separation Anxiety: Coco is noted to destroy household items when left home alone. We recommend that potential adopters feel comfortable with separation anxiety behaviors and prepared to manage and positively modify them should they appear in a home environment. She would do best in a home where a person is home for a large part of the day or with a plan so she is not alone for long periods of time. Strength/Leash Pulling: Coco's previous owner states that she pulls very hard on leash. Coco is a strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. Her adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that she be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which help diminish her strength through leverage, and that she be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.
