Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Nobel is on the emergency placement list due to his behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 3/6/23 Crouched down on top of kuranda bed. Leans head forward to sniff treats offered on the scratcher tool. When reaching close, she hisses, leans back, and raises a paw up. When pet on the body, he begins growling and dodging the tool to avoid touch. Still fearful of attention. 3/7/23 Nobel was on top of the kuranda bed with large pupils and when approached with treats using the scratcher tool she pulled back and hissed but then slow blinked serval times and sniffed the treats. Starting -R with her. 2nd approach she looked tense and then slow blinked. 3/9/23 1- Crouched down under the kuranda bed, retreats and climbs on top upon approach. Tenses up and spoken to and opening the door, hisses when reaching close. I pause and wait for her to display calm body language, she lies down. I mark and leave. 2- Crouched down on top of kuranda bed with tense body and wide eyes. Sits up when spoken to and opening the door. I reach close and place my hand on the edge of the kuranda bed and she focuses but does not escalate. I hold it there for 15 seconds. Then mark and leave for her being calm. 3- In previous position, sits up when spoken to and opening the door. Tenses up when reaching close, hisses when pet but does not escalate. I place my hand at the edge of the kuranda bed, she focuses on it and looks back at me, slow blinks. I mark and leave. 3/10/23 As she continues to show no interest today she did not hiss. Alert with an intense stare at the observer and while attempting to pet with the scratcher tool. Left alone to reduce stress. 3/11/23 Nobel. In the back of the karunda bed tense, lip licks, I speak gently, slow blink and wait and then mark. Repeated. 3/13/23 Seems to be hovering between -R and +R. She stared past me and I waited and then left. Will try opening the door next. She then moved to the cubby and when I approached with treats she hissed, I waited then left. 3/14/23 Sitting upright against the back wall alert with eyes wide. She hisses upon approach with an intense stare. Wary with the interaction and kept short to reduce stress. 3/16/23 Continues to show distant behavior. Accepts brief pets with the scratcher tool but remains frozen in place. 3/18/23 She was sitting upright in the hidey box alert focusing on the observer. When placing offered treats on the ledge she began to anxiously move around and ran into the den. Shows no interest to engage. 3/20/23 Avoids contact by fleeing into which ever space I am not opening the door to. Left treats in cubby his favorite space. When I’m the main kennel he would hide behind his hidey box. 3/21/23 Behind closed doors she tolerates human presence. However, she anxiously moves and avoids contact when attempting to pet with the scratcher tool. She hisses and runs when getting close. To reduce stress the interaction was kept short. *Enrichment Notes continued in GAN*

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Skittish,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: New home adjustment period,Inappropriate elimination,Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Unclear about the litter box. Owners described her as a kitten without litter box training. VS aged her at 2 years. 3/21/23 UPDATE: We've been extensively monitoring Nobel's litter box use and it has been consistently excellent in the care center.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Nobel fled into the other den when looked at and would flee back and forth until the transfer door was shut and then cowered in the back with large eyes and when approached and touched with the scratcher tool she tried to flee again but couldn’t and then postured as if to try to escape vertically, raised a paw and hissed. Nobel barely tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
