Animal Profile

Tima

Hello, my name is Tima. My animal id is #250740. I am a desexed male orange cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 3/28/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person health - allergies.

Tima is at risk for medical reasons. Tima is an obese 8 year old cat who has not been eating since arriving at the shelter. Due to his obesity, not eating puts him at risk for hepatic lipidosis. Tima would benefit from a rapid shelter exit so he can be in a low stress environment, decompress, and have his appetite improve. Tima is a sweet shy boy who has allowed for all handling.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! Tima interacts with the observer, appreciates attention and allows all petting, but did not appear to like being picked up during their behavior evaluation. He low growls when upward pressure was placed on his belly but was also noted by his previous owner to dislike being picked up and is a larger cat. We recommend that this cat go to an adult-only home with experienced cat parents.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 4/3/26 FB79 Laying inside of the kennel, Tima is laying on his side with a loose tail, neutral eyes and forward ears; he had no reaction when i greeted him and had no interest in treats but leaned in when i started to pet his cheeks as well as head and down/around his body. However when i returned to give him a comfy bed in his kennel he hissed harshly and his ears tilted to the side. I removed the bed and ended the interaction to respect his space. 4/4/26 FB79 Sweet boy Tima, lays low in the kennel when i approached and greet him; he looks up at me with soft eyes and forward ears. When i bring my hand in he sniffs and lowers his head for pets. Tima slow blinks as i pet the top of his head and between his eyes. He had no reaction when i pet all over his back and body and had no interest in treats offered. 4/5/26 fb79 Today i offered Tima some high value treats after petting and spending some time with him; however when i returned he did not eat any of the treats offered.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Uncomfortable with pick up,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: It is noted that Tima is an independent cat that prefers contact on his own terms. He likes to be alone in the bedroom as well as a couch potato next to you when he is in the mood for quality time. He is also noted to not like being picked up or handled and will squirm or attempted to run away. When the assessor put upward pressure on his belly, he began to low growl. Due to his size, potential adopters should be counselled on not picking up Tima and respecting his boundaries.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Tima would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Tima is laying in his box and taking up the whole box. He is sitting with a generally neutral face and body, ears forward but doesn't necessarily greet the assessor. He accepts pets along his head and body, raising his hips at times when pet along his lower back but otherwise not leaning into touch. When the assessor places upward pressure on his belly, he begins to low growl but doesn't escalate.
