I came into the shelter as a agency on 11/7/2025.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormZeus is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in his previous home. Zeus has a documented bite history involving his previous owners, consisting of quick bites or bite and release incidents during stressful situations, such as crating or exposure to barking dogs, which have reportedly not broken skin. In the care center, he has presented as fearful and avoidant, displaying tucked tail, whale eye, and attempts to seek exits during handling. He pulls on walks, hesitates when returning toward the building, and shows discomfort during close contact, but has been warming up slowly. Medically, Zeus is receiving treatment for CIRDC.

Zeus arrived at the care center as an owner surrender after his previous owners felt uncomfortable with him in the home. He has a history of destructive behavior in the home, including damage to furniture and household items, and pulls hard on leash and jumps frequently. Zeus reacts to small and large dogs on walks and becomes highly stimulated during loud noises such as storms, fireworks, or arguments, during which he has lunged at people in sight and nibbled or bitten at arms or legs. His bite history includes 1-2 incidents toward his owners, resulting in scratches or bruising but no skin breaks. Warning signs described before biting have included tucked tail, flattened ears, whale eyes, growling, barking, and snarling. Zeus is also described as affectionate and playful, enjoys being near people or resting in his crate, loves bath time and car rides, and knows cues such as sit and come and in the care center has been social with staff. As a result, we recommend he is placed with one of our New Hope Partners.

Summary:: 11/10/25 Due to being under the weather, Zeus cannot attend PG at this time.
Summary (6):: 11/16/25 (Assessment): Zeus is on his kuranda bed, sitting up with his weight shifted onto the front end of his body as the handler approaches the kennel. He walks up to the front and is leashed with ease. As they walk through the kennel room, Zeus startles as the neighboring dogs jump onto their kennel doors. He will pull hard out of the room and then moderately to the behavior office. He is clipped to a drag leash and gets through his assessment. Once the session is over, he is returned to his kennel with no issue. He is secured safely. (See assessment for more information) 11/12/25: Zeus is slowly rising from his kuranda bed and walking to the front of the kennel as the handler approaches. He is leashed with ease and will pull hard to the yard, occasionally getting startled by noises. Once in the yard his collar is clipped and he starts running around the yard. The handler tosses a ball for him and he begins to chase it around the yard, running around with a loose body. After playing with toys for a while, he will start jumping on the handler but the handler is able to redirect him with treats and he leans into petting. He is then returned to his kennel with no issue and secured safely.
Summary (7):: 11/10/25 Zeus is lying down in kennel as the handler approaches. He rises up and comes forward with a relaxed frame, allowing the handler to leash him. He is taken on a walk where he maintains a neutral frame and relaxed pace. Zeus will take treats extremely gentle and allow pets to his head. Zeus appears lethargic, displaying low energy on his walk due to being under the weather. He is returned to the facility entering the building as well as his kennel with no issue. 11/9/25: Zeus is at teh back of his kennel sitting up on his bed and when coaxed over slowly makes his way over to teh handler, and allows them to leash no issue. Zeus walked out with a neutral body, but is spooked by a sudden passing staff member, but recovers and walks to the office space. In the room, Zeus will lean into contact, remained neutral body and even approach staff members on his own, at first a bit reluctant but after a bit also leaning into contact. Zeus is still spooked by novel things, like mops and sudden movement of the chairs and will avoid them, but will actively seek comfort from the handler. Zeus is taken back to his kennel with no issue. 11/2/25: Zeus is curled up on his bed as the handler approaches his kennel. The handler opens the door and Zeus will stretch towards the door and walk up to it slowly with a loose body. He is leashed with ease and pulls hard to the yard. He will sniff, marking as he walks around the perimeter of the yard. On the walk back to the Care Center, Zeus will attempt to retreat to the play yard by turning around and pulling hard. The handler is able to wait this out and he will then continue walking back to the Care Center. He will then pull hard into his kennel and is secured safely. 11/1/25: Zeus is at the back of his kennel curled up on his bed. As the handler opens the door, Zeus will approach the door slowly and walk into the leash. He will walk out of his kennel slowly and then pulls moderately towards the stairs to exit the building but then follows the handler as they walk towards the behavior office. Once in the office, the handler attempts to clip Zeus's collar but he will stare at the handler and display slight whale eye so they decide not to. He will walk around the room and relieves himself but begins to seek exit. The handler then takes him out for a walk. Zeus pulls moderately with his tail tucked and does not sniff. As they start turning back towards the Care Center, Zeus will stop but can be coaxed forward. He is then returned to his kennel and secured safely.

Summary:: Quiet/nervous in kennel. Cageside exam
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have little history on Zeus so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Potential challenges: : House soiling,Destructive behavior,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Destructive behavior/House soiling: Zeus has a history of destructive tendencies in the home, including damage to furniture, walls, shoes, and household items. This occurs especially when he is anxious or left alone. He is anxious when left alone, may have crate accidents if confined too long. Basic manners / poor impulse control: Zeus pulls hard on leash, jumps frequently, becomes overly excited, and has difficulty settling. He is described as very active, playful, and often overstimulated, which contributes to his challenges with impulse control. Fearful / potential for defensive aggression: Zeus is fearful of loud noises such as storms, fireworks, or arguments. When triggered, he will lunge at whoever is in sight, followed by nibbling or biting at arms or legs. He has also shown fear- or stress-related warning signs, including tucked tail, flattened ears, whale eyes, growling, and snarling. Bite history (human): Zeus has a documented bite history involving his owners. The bites did not break skin, but resulted in scratches or bruising. He has bitten 1–2 times, often during stressful situations such as being put in the crate or hearing other dogs bark. Bites typically involved multiple quick bites or a bite-and-release pattern. Anxiety :Zeus displays anxiety both in the care center and in the home. He is anxious when left alone, may have crate accidents if confined too long, and reacts nervously to loud noises. His previous owner also described him as an anxious dog. On-leash reactivity / barrier frustration :On walks, Zeus reacts to small and large dogs. His reaction is described as “engagement,” but given his hard pulling, excitability, and jumping toward triggers, his behavior is consistent with on-leash reactivity and barrier frustration.
