Sir Handsome Goodboy is at risk due to behavioral reasons. During his previous stay in care, SHG was observed to snap at handlers when they attempted to leash him. During his current stay this behavior escalated. During an attempt to leash him, SHG fixated on the handler, jumped up, and bit the handler on the right index finger. The bite resulted in six small puncture wounds and drew blood. While out with handlers, SHG is exuberant and social. Medically, SHG has alopecia and pyoderma.

The bite resulted in six small puncture wounds and drew blood. Due to the detailed behavior, we recommend an experienced adult only home. DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 4 years Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned negative History: Stray Subjective: BAR Observed Behavior - Tense body for exam. Ate readily. Is there evidence of Cruelty? No Is there evidence of Neglect? No Is there evidence of Trauma? No Objective P = 120 R = WNL BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean. No nasal or ocular discharge noted. Oral Exam: Mild tartar PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male intact MSI: Erythema between digits. [Pre-op Exam] Hx: Intake 1/23/24 - dermatitis (erythema) between toes. S/O) Mild- mod sneezing. Slight cough elicited on tracheal palpation. No v/d noted. Good appetite. QARH/ slightly dull. T=103.4 EENT: Eyes - scleral and conjunctival hyperemia, slight MPOD. SND. Oral Exam: MM pk, CRT 1 H/L: NSR, NM. Eupneic, normal respiratory rate/ effort, clr bilat. Abd: No obvious distension, soft. UG: male, prescrotal area clear MSI: Amb x 4, no lameness noted. Good body condition. Mild- mod erythema between some toes but minimal swelling, otherwise hair coat good and no lesions. CNS: Mentation appropriate. A) CIRDC with fever Pododermatitis still present P) Reject for surgery. SQF 400 cc given Proviable 1 tablet daily x 10 days Doxycyline 300 mg x 10 days. Re-check in 3 days if still in shelter.

On 07/27/2026 at approximately 10:25 am, I examined Sir Handsome Goodboy 192013. He has appropriate mentation at this time with no neurologic signs present, and has not exhibited any neurological signs while at ACC.

Upon intake, Sir Handsome Goodboy was loose-bodied and walked with little pulling to medical where he accepted all handling. He walked easily to his kennel and was went right into his kennel without issue.

Date of Intake: 7/13/2026

Basic Information:: Sir Handsome Goodboy is being surrendered by his owner who has had him for almost a year and a half, after finding him on the street because the family has too many dogs in the home after unplanned puppies were born.

Previously lived with:: 2 adults (21,46). 1 child (15) 2 dogs (both medium); 2 cats (medium and small )

How is this dog around strangers?: SHG is reported to be playful and tolerant around strangers.

How is this dog around children?: SHG is reported to be playful around children.

How is this dog around other dogs?: SHG is reported to be playful, friendly and outgoing with familiar and unfamiliar dogs.

How is this dog around cats?: SHG is reported to be tolerant around cats.

Resource guarding:: Food is a high value item for SHG but owner has never attempted to take food from him.

Bite history:: No reported bite history.

Housetrained:: No

Energy level/descriptors:: Medium

Other Notes:: SHG goes potty on walks outside (grass, cement, dirt, etc.). While on walks he is not reactive to anything (people, other animals, or loud vehicles/noises). He may go potty in the bathroom in the home a few times a week. Only reported behavior concern is that he can bark a lot. SHG is described as a very easygoing dog that isn't bothered when held/restrained, disturbed while resting/sleeping, startled, pushed/pulled off furniture, paws are touched or his collar grabbed/touched.

For a New Family to Know: Sir Handsome Goodboy's previous owner describes him as a couch potato that likes to spend most of his time in the bedroom. He allows owner/family to bathe and brush him. He was walked 1-2 times a day for 15 minutes and was described as a dog that does very little leash pulling SHG is crate trained and does well in a metal crate for up to 4 hours. He loves car rides and knows the cues sit, house and roam. He is accustomed to eating Pure Being brand wet and dry food. Previous owner's favorite things about SHG is that he is gentle and not aggressive at all. His favorite activity is laying down and waiting.

When attempting to leash, SHG fixated, jumped up, and bit the handler on their right index finger - causing 6 small puncture wounds, drawing blood. Following the initial bite, SHG made several additional attempts to bite the handler's hand. The handler cleaned the wound and bandaged it.

Summary:: Sir Handsome Goodboy was surrendered to the care center by his owners due to having too many dogs in the home. While in the care center, Sir Handsome Goodboy was being taken out for his morning walk. During an attempt to leash him, Sir Handsome Goodboy fixated on the handler, jumped up, and bit the handler on the right index finger. The bite resulted in six small puncture wounds and drew blood. Following the initial bite, Sir Handsome Goodboy made several additional attempts to bite the handler's hand. The handler immediately cleaned the wound and applied a bandage. Due to Sir Handsome Goodboy's escalation to biting, he is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.

Summary:: 1/24/24: Gate Greeting- Approached helper dog with neutral body and wagging, sniffing

Summary (7):: 7/17/26: When the handler attempts to leash him, Sir Handsome Goodboy bites their hand; he also continues to attempt to bite their hand several more times. 7/16/26: Sir Handsome Goodboy is at the front of his kennel, repeatedly jumping on the kennel door as the handler approaches. Handler uses a treat lure and Sir readily accepts the treats and easily leashed. He pulls very hard while exiting the room and in the hallways, but shows no reactivity towards pop-up crates. While in the elevator, Sir exuberantly jumps on the handler but is easily redirected with treats. Once outside, Sir continues pulling hard ahead of the handler. When Sir sees another dog, he will stare at them with neutral body but looses interest quickly. Sir allows petting, gently takes treats, and remains social with handler during the walk. Once walk is done, Sir is taken to the Canine Behavior office for the assessment (see notes). During return handler is abler to pre-clip the leash and bring Sir back into the kennel with no further issues. 2/4/24: Staff members have reported that Sir Handsome Goodboy will snap at hands when attempting to leash

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

It is important to move slowly with SHG, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people.
