Animal Profile

Biscotti

Hello, my name is Biscotti. My animal id is #259515. I am a male gray cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 1 months 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 7/12/2026.

Biscotti is on the at-risk list due to behavior. Although Biscotti has made improvements throughout his stay, he presents challenging behaviors during his decompression period and appears easily overstimulated. He has displayed the potential for behavioral escalation. It is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust to a new home.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Biscotti was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 7/16/26 Vol. Biscotti was inside his den, looking out with wide eyes. No response to sweet talk. When the scratcher tool was extended slowly with the treat, he swatted hard through the portal. He continued to stare out of the portal, whiskers back, ears up. Seems unopen to interaction at this time. 7/17/26 Vol. In hidey box - stuck head out while reading report, eyes round, pupils dilated then pulled back. As cage being opened, he swatted air. Glared out as put in treat bowl. Approached with hard treat on scratcher tool, he swatted hard and tool fell to floor. He stayed in hidey box. Approached again - swatted hard numerous times. Let tool rest, removed and ended interaction. 7/29/26 FB20 Biscotti is laying stretched out on top of his den. He sniffs scratcher tool with squeeze up with interest and licks it. He then allows cheek pets with the tool, even closing his eyes and leaning in. However, when pet along his body he swats the tool (Not as hard as he used to swat!). He is left with more squeeze up. 8/4/26 FB20 Biscotti as at the front of the kennel rubbing along the bars, kneading, with forward ears and dilated eyes. He sniffs scratcher tool and begins rubbing his face along the tool, enjoying pets. After about 4-5 pets, he begins nipping the tool. He alternates between nips and petting himself. Eventually the nips become harder and the interaction is ended. 8/5/26 Vol. Biscotti was rubbing his body against kennel door and chirping, standing tall with his tail in the air. He leaned into forehead and cheek rubs with scratcher tool for several minutes, while purring loudly. His body was loose and he appeared generally calm. He continued to chirp and rub against kennel door after interaction. 8/6/26 FB73 Biscotti is at the front of the kennel, meowing softly and leaning against the kennel bars as the handler approaches. When the kennel door is opened, he softly head bunts the handler's hands, allowing and leaning into all petting with his tail in a question mark position. He briefly jumps out of the kennel, appearing interested in exploring, and is able to be easily picked up, remaining calm when he is held. When he is placed back in the kennel, Biscotti remains at the front and continues to allow/lean into all further petting.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty

CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Curious,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,Fearful,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: See relevant behavior flyers. Biscotti is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior, we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

Recommendations comments:: Due to behavior observed in the care center, an adult only home is recommended.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 7/15/26 Biscotti was crouched in his den with dilated eyes and forward ears. He watched the handler carefully as they approached and leaned forward to sniff the treats offered to him. He eagerly licked up the treats but slowly moved back when the handler got closer. After eating, he began low grumbling but accepted pets along his head and body with the click stick, remaining calm. Pick up was not attempted to reduce FAS. 7/17/26 Biscotti is inside of his den. On approach, he is heard low growling. When a scratcher tool is slowly extended to the portal of the den, Biscotti hisses, spits, and quickly extends his paw out to strike the scratcher tool with force. 8/16/26 Biscotti is laying on top of his den, body and eyes relaxed and observing the room as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened and he is spoken to softly, he jumps down from the top of the den and trills as he comes forward to greet the assessor. He head bunts the assessor's hand, tail held low but allowing and leaning into all petting and tolerating extended petting. He is able to be easily picked up, remaining calm when he is held. When he is placed back into his kennel, Biscotti leans into further petting but does display piloerection at the base of his tail. After a few passes he turns around and air-nips at the assessor's hand, not making contact and appearing to be signaling that he is done with the interaction. Biscotti tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
