Animal Profile

Mylo

Hello, my name is Mylo. My animal id is #212668. I am a desexed male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 9 months old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 7/8/2025, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.

Mylo is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for his mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid (further) bite/scratch incidents.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. A volunteer writes: Mylo began emphatically nuzzling his door when he saw I was standing right outside his condo. He's silly and big hearted and hopes his dances will be just the thing that gets you to open the door. While Mylo's endearing abundance of enthusiasm and hope for visitors means that he falls over his paws while trying to make a good impression, it doesn't end with his fun dances at the front. Folding his head in my hand, he kneaded the floor and purred. Cuddling to get as close to me as he possibly could, all Mylo really wants is a chance. Well, that and some cuddles.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Mylo is a social, sweet, and affectionate cat who can be a little shy at the start. He was curled up resting in the den upon approach with his head tucked in and tail wrapped around his body. When spoken to and opening the door, he perks up and sniffs treats offered. He welcomes petting on the head and leans in hard for cheek rubs. The assessor attempts to coax him out with more cheek rubs, but he is somewhat unsure at first; he will rub and lean his cheek on the side entrance of the den to invite more cheek rubs. After some time, he eventually walks out of the den to stretch and walks to the front for more cheek rubs. He gently head bunts for petting and raises his hips and tail up when stroking his body, During pick up, he is calm and relaxed, rests his front limbs on the assessor's arms, and allows petting all over when held and hugged for 10 seconds. After placing him back down, he continues to appreciate more petting and cheek rubs, and then softly meows and rubs his face on the door to solicit more attention at the end of the interaction. Mylo interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. He may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors and bite/scratch history in the previous home, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
