Emergency Placement Animals

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Animal Care Centers of NYC. Our emergency placement animals are posted three times a week, on the evenings of Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6:00PM and remain viewable for 42 hours.

Schedule overview:
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Sunday evening will be viewable until Tuesday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Tuesday evening will be viewable until Thursday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Thursday evening will be viewable until Saturday at 12:00PM noon.

If this is your first time visiting this site, please read the below information carefully.

For anyone who wishes to adopt, there is a mandatory deposit fee of $200 plus a transaction fee per animal to place an adoption reservation. The $200 covers $50 toward the adoption fee and $150 for the spay/neuter deposit. If the animal has already been spayed or neutered or is permanently waived by one of our veterinarians, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time of the adoption. If the animal does need to leave without being spayed or neutered due to his/her medical condition, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time they are brought back for the spay/neuter surgery or when proof of sterilization being done elsewhere is provided to ACC. If you do not follow through with the adoption, the entire $200 deposit will be considered a charitable donation to ACC's Special Treatment and Recovery Fund (STAR). Also, if the adoption fee for an animal is less than $50, the difference will be considered a charitable donation to the STAR Fund. Similarly, in-shelter pricing promotions do not apply to emergency placement animals.

To complete an adoption, please click reserve on the animal of your choice. That animal will be loaded in your cart and you will have 15 minutes to complete the adoption process. In order to complete your reservation, you need to check out (top right corner). At this point, you will enter in your credit card information and a receipt will be emailed to you as confirmation of your reservation. Binky
Transport reccs: None specific. Binky is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Binky has been displaying social behavior with the staff, but recently, he has been struggling with the stress of shelter life. Staff members have reported him leash biting more intensely - as well as pulling and tugging on the leash while vocalizing. This behavior has become increasingly more difficult to redirect with treats. Medically, Binky is underweight.

Leonardo
Leonardo needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Leonardo has been highly stressed in the kennel, licking his kennel bars, vocalizing incessantly, and digging at his kennel door. Leonardo when being returned to his kennel will thrash and lay on the floor making it difficult to return him to his kennel. Medically, Leonardo is healthy.

Will O' Wisp
Will O'Wisp is in need of emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. Will o'Wisp has been highly social with staff and caretakers, but due to her length of stay, she is beginning to deteriorate. She is reluctant to return to her kennel, balking and refusing to walk. She initially would follow a trail of treats back to her kennel but that has now lost its value. She has escalated to snapping during an attempt to pick her up to carry her back to her kennel. Medically, Will O' Wisp has cherry eye and a mass.

Kitanna
Kitanna needs emergency placement for behavior reasons. Kitanna has begun to deteriorate in the stressful care center environment. Staff have found that using a long-lasting high-value treat is effective when leashing Kitanna to avoid her jumping up to grab the handler's leash. On previous occasions, Kitanna has pushed her way out of the kennel and begun to kennel fight intensely. She was moved to a pop-up crate in a staff office but was able to break out multiple times getting into office supplies. When being returned to her kennel, she is highly anxious and will scream, pulling on the leash through the halls. She is sweet and social with staff during outdoor interactions and has good home notes. She does not like other dogs and should be the only pet.

Rooster
Rooster is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Rooster is a sociable dog who delights in receiving treats from the staff. However, he's been having a tough time coping with the stress of his surroundings lately. Unfortunately, he's started to express his frustration by grabbing onto staff members' leashes and treat pouches. Despite attempts to redirect his attention with treats, he proves difficult to refocus. His behavior escalates, and has nipped at staff. Medically, Rooster is apparently healthy.

Lady Baby
Lady Baby is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Lady Baby is noted to vocalize incessantly in kennel and become very mouthy when out with staff during interactions, grabbing onto clothes and hands. Lady Baby is hard to redirect when her anxiety spikes and continues to vocalize when going back into her kennel. Medically, Lady Baby is Underweight.

Princetopher

Princetopher is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Princetopher in care has been leash biting coming in and out of kennel and while on walks, making it hard to take him out safely. Princetopher is not easily refocused with treats or toys, and been trying to bite leashes that are clipped to fences. Princetopher is a high energy dog that is social with staff. Medically, Princetopher has diarrhea.

Circo is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Circo in care has began to deteriorate and begin to leash biting intensely when out for walks, grabbing onto leashes and tugging and is difficult to redirect with treats or toys. In care, Circo is an social, high energy dog. Medically, Circo is underweight.

Wonka Blue
Wonka Blue is on the emergency placement list for medical reasons. Wonka has moderate neurological deficits in which he staggers and collapses at times. He will not thrive in this environment and needs further diagnostics and care that we cannot provide. Behaviorally, Wonka has responded well to a slow approach and has warmed up to staff.

Max needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. He was reported by the prior owners to hard bark and growl at dogs, cats, and unfamiliar people. Max has warmed to select handlers but mostly remains uncomfortable when with unfamiliar staff or caretakers and low growls when in the kennel. Medically, he has otitis externa.

Penelope needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Penelope was surrendered due to concerning behaviors in the home including attempting to bite the owner and one of the resident children, and reactivity to strangers including during walks. While in care, Penelope has not acclimated well. She remains tense and wary during interactions, allowing for minimal handling. Medically, Penelope is healthy.

Justice needs emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. Justice is initially timid but warms up with new people or environments. With familiar staff and caretakers, he readily seeks attention, and engages in play with toys and enrichment games. However, due to his length of stay, Justice is beginning to deteriorate. When removed and returned to his kennel, Justice shows a concerning level of kennel reactivity which has resulted in him redirecting on a staff member, biting their treat pouch. Medically, Justice is overweight.

Koba
Koba needs emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. Koba has a low threshold for arousal which manifests as leash biting and lunging on walks. When being removed from his kennel for walks, Koba bites his leash and tries to push his way out. Once outside of the kennel, Koba persistently jumps up and becomes mouthy. Initially, he could be refocused with treats but that is quickly losing its value and now he is lunging at the handler walking him. Medically, Koba is healthy.

Wall-E
Wall-E needs emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. While Wall-E has been highly social with staff and caretakers, he has displayed a concerningly low threshold for arousal. Wall-E did bite one of his adopters when he became aroused during a play session, prompting them to return him. Due to his length of stay, Wall-E is beginning to deteriorate behaviorally. He is jumping to the top of his kennel while barking and screeching. Medically, Wall-E has dental disease and is underweight.

Snow needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Snow in kennel has been noted to be deteriorating in kennel and has begun to grab handlers leashes and tug them into kennel when attempting to leash her, despite best efforts to keep her comfortable. Snow outside of her kennel with staff is a social and affectionate dog. Medically, Snow is underweight.

Josie in care has been stressed in the kennel, barking incessantly and even to the point of losing her voice from barking so much inside of her crate. Josie is also observed to have a wide, open-mouthed pant and a strained expression. Josie is a social, affectionate dog with staff. Medically, Josie has Mild PDDZ.

Shadow Rain needs emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. Shadow Rain has been anxious but social during his stay. He has displayed a concerning level of resource guarding over a toy while in care, escalating to stiffening, hovering, and snarling. Medically, Shadow Rain has been diagnosed with dental disease.

Zahira is seeking emergency placement for medical concerns. Zahira has suspected chronic kidney disease with moderate anemia. She is finding shelter life stressful and will not allow more aggressive supportive care like subcutaneous fluid administration. She is eating her renal diet fairly well, and her kidney values have improved. Her anemia has worsened as her hydration has improved while in the shelter. Zahira needs a quiet place out of the shelter to enjoy her senior years.
