Animal Profile

Ratoncillo

Hello, my name is Ratoncillo. My animal id is #218881. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/18/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- death of owner.

Ratoncillo is on the at-risk list for medical reasons. Ratoncillo arrived to the shelter with noticeable chronic eye issues. His right eye appears to have upper and lower lid entropion and his left eye has an ocular abnormality that appears to be caused by either a mass or a ruptured globe. Ratoncillo needs an ophthalmology consult in order to better assess/treat his ocular abnormalities and have surgery to remove the eyes if indicated. Ratoncillo is very uncomfortable and we are limited as to what can provide in shelter. He needs more care than we are able to provide.

A volunteer writes: Ratoncillo is the cutest little mouse and I so love him and his adorable name. Ratoncillo came with friend Pablita as their owner passed away. Not much is known about him beside the fact that he does have major eye problems seriously hampering his vision. He is likely totally blind.  This does not prevent Ratoncillo to be up and about, wanting to meet his visitors and seeking love. He is one friendly senior so pleasant to spend time with and we are all in awe with the stoic way he handles his ailment and disability. Ratoncillo needs ophthalmology care ASAP(he does have a right upper and lower entropion and possibly a left ruptured globe or mass) and a kind and safe place for his golden years. Ratoncillo is hoping you will hear his plea and come very soon to his rescue....

Upon intake, Ratoncillo was likely not aware that someone was near him due to his eye infection. He did not make any movements when he was being approached. He accepted all handling with ease. He was not collared due to him moving into the den, and due to his eye infection, he was not bothered with collaring. He allowed checking for MC and being placed in a den.

He welcomes petting on the head and leans in for cheek rubs. He remains calm and unbothered when stroking his body. During pick up, he tenses up a little bit and puts his tail between his legs when held for 5 seconds. After placing him back down, he lies down in the same spot and position and continues to tolerate more petting and attention.
