Animal Profile

Rumeni

Hello, my name is Rumeni. My animal id is #236442. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 16 years old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/11/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- owner elderly.

Rumeni has been placed on the at-risk list for medical reasons. He is elderly, frail and has chronic kidney disease. He needs care and attention that we cannot provide.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Rumeni has been placed on the at-risk list for medical reasons. He is elderly, frail and has chronic kidney disease. He needs care and attention that we cannot provide. A volunteer writes: Rumeni means to "make red" in Romanian language. Well, our Rumeni is a beautiful seasoned Ginger(with lots of freckles) at ...sixteen years of age. His owner surrendered him for personal reasons, letting us know, though, that Rumeni is a friendly, playful and quiet lap kitty. I am not a cat but I could see that Rumeni was shock frozen when I met him yesterday.. We tried to make him feel comfortable and housed him in our interaction room where he has countless resting places, a window to see cars, people and pigeons...and good soft food to munch on. This sudden change in his life is breath taking, heart stopping, brainfogging...He stayed very still in one place, stern looking although he accepted caresses and even leaned a little against our hands. He is eating now and that is a good thing. We are hoping that Rumeni will realize that we are all rooting for him and will start very soon to perk up(look at his new video!). We all feel deeply for this very senior cat and would love, love, love to see Rumeni moving quickly to a loving and caring  retirement home suitable for his advanced age. I am looking for a home with a patient person. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I can go home today! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gentleman, looking for the perfect forever home! I have lived with cats in my previous home.

My medical notes are...

Weight: 8.6 lbs
