Treasure
Hello, my name is Treasure . My animal id is #231058. I am a male white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 15 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 7/2/2025.
Treasure is on the at risk list due to medical reasons. He is geriatric, has a high-grade heart murmur and is also showing signs of circling, which may be due to underlying neurologic disease. He will either need a cardiology and neurology consult or hospice care with placement. Behaviorally, Treasure is mostly aloof but tolerates medical handling well.

It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Summary:: Due to Treasure entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 07/05/25: While off leash at the Care Center, Treasure is introduced to a novel male dog. Treasure will stand at the gate displaying complete avoidance—turning her face away, not scenting or acknowledging the novel male, and holding a stiff, still stance. The novel male approaches with a relaxed body and curiously scents Treasure through the gate. The novel male retreats from the gate and begins hard barking. The dogs are then separated, and the novel male continues to bark until Treasure is out of sight. This concludes the interaction.
Summary (7):: 07/05/25: (Assessment) Treasure displays a neutral demeanor as the handler approaches her kennel. When the door is opened, she retreats to the side, but the handler is able to easily lasso her and carry her to the Behavior Assessment (BA) room. Treasure remains neutral and tolerant while being carried. She completes her assessment—please refer to the Behavior Assessment for further details. Throughout the interaction, Treasure remains neutral and aloof, showing minimal engagement with handlers and little interest in social interaction. She appears shut down. Treasure is then escorted back to her kennel, where she is safely unleashed and secured without issue. 7/2: Treasure was observed multiple times throughout the day, spinning in circles repeatedly while panting heavily. ACS staff also observed and reported the same behaviors to handlers as well.
