Animal Profile

Oreo Sprinkles

Hello, my name is Oreo Sprinkles. My animal id is #234445. I am a desexed female black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 2 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/12/2025, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Oreo Sprinkles is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for his/her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid (further) bite/scratch incidents.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

My foster writes: Oreo Sprinkles is ready to be your new cuddle buddy. Some of her favorite pastimes are looking out the window, begging for pets, munching on treats, and taking long naps. Oreo will follow you wherever you go, but she especially loves lounging on the couch and watching TV. She loves her time in your lap, and if she's too lazy to get up when you sit by her, she'll usually stretch to have her paws resting on you. She can be a little shy and easily overstimulated, so be sure to be patient and to learn what makes her upset. She may need some space at times, but when she's in a good mood, you'll be joined at the hip. Oreo is also a chatty cat with a lot to say, especially when there are doors separating her from her human friends! I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! Oreo Sprinkles tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents

Oreo was rubbing up against the foster's legs for attention. Foster was a few steps away from the bathroom when Oreo grabbed onto their leg and bit and scratched it, leaving a puncture wound that broke skin. She made a growling/meowing noise while she was doing it. The room was dark and quiet, with one nightlight on. There was no outside stimulus as far as the foster could tell. After the incident, the foster made a noise and Oreo crouched down briefly seeming scared, but then got up and returned to asking for affection by rubbing on the foster's legs. Foster went into the bedroom, and Oreo meowed outside of the bedroom door.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/17/25 Vol Lying down inside den. Her eyes were squinty, with large pupils. She briefly sniffed at a feather toy, but did not play. When offered squeeze up on scratcher tool, she poked her head out of den and ate enthusiastically. She accepted more squeeze up, but could not be coaxed further pout of den. After a minute or so, she withdrew into den away from opening, and rested quietly. She is noted to be currently recovering from surgery. 10/07/25 FB61 Oreo Sprinkle is standing in front of her kennel as I approach, her pupils dilated and her body lowered as she follows my movements back and forth while pacing. She snaps at the air and swats at the door while hyper-fixating on sudden movements... this does not appear to be aggressive in nature as she is not hissing or showing any other signs of offensive-aggression. Oreo Sprinkle appears to be very under-stimulated at this time with an excessive amount of energy. I spend the session redirecting her using toys and providing her with a lot of enrichment. When pet with the scratcher tool Oreo Sprinkle is tolerant while turning her head to watch the scratcher with the same wide-eyed, hyper-focused expression. 10/11/25 FB79 Oreo is at the front of the kennel, perched with paws tucked, forward ears and stands with a hightail when I open the kennel door. Her eyes are wide and dilated, but she leans in, head bunts me for chin and cheek rubs, as she starts to enjoy the treats that are place down for her. She tolerates pets all down her back with no reaction, but when I return to pet on her chin and cheeks her back arches as she steps away, harshly flinching at my hand with no further reaction. 10/14/25 FB61 Lying in back of kennel as I open the kennel door, ears forward and face neutral. She stretches as I open the kennel door and allows all petting with the assess-a-hand while leaning in, tensing her body slightly and turning her head to watch the hand pass along her back. She seems a bit unsure however she does not show any signs of further escalation today. She is rewarded with a catnip toy that she enjoys playing with. 10/21/25 FB06 Sleeping at the front of the kennel, Oreo Sprinkles stood up and began pacing, soliciting attention as soon as I approached. As I opened the door she began nudging my hand for pets. She allowed all petting from head to tail, as her tail would go high as I pet her backside. When petting her head and shoulder area her tail would be mid rise and waving gently back and forth. I gave her treats and gave her a few more pets with no issues. 10/23/25 FB61 Oreo Sprinkles allowed all petting with the scratcher tool today while leaning in and waving her tail back and forth. Her pupils remain dilated and her body and face remains slightly tense throughout our session. Oreo Sprinkles is currently showing signs of potential overstimulation. She also appears to be very sensitive to her surroundings. GAN

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: PREVIOUS ASSESSMENTS Oreo Sprinkles is laying on her side on top of her den, body relaxed, getting down and stretching forward to greet the assessor at the front of the kennel. She is initially receptive to attention, head bunting and leaning into the assessor's hands, chirping, and allowing petting on her head, cheeks, and down her shoulders. However, shortly after she returns to the top of her den and is no longer interested in interaction, lip licking, body tensing, low growling, hissing, and swatting when further interaction is attempted. Oreo Sprinkles was standing in front of her kennel as the assessor approached, body and face tense with her pupils dilated and her ears forward. Oreo Sprinkles made eye contact when spoken to and she began rubbing against the door energetically as the kennel door opened. Oreo Sprinkles tolerated petting along her head and body with the assess-a-hand while leaning in, keeping her tail high in the air as it sways around and whipping her head back to watch the hand. Oreo Sprinkles was pet with more force and along her back and stomach but she did not escalate further. Pick up was not attempted at this time to prevent potential escalation. Oreo Sprinkles appears to be very sensitive to the environment and to stimuli, although she did not bite or scratch during her assessment (which is just a short window of observable time). 11/8/25 Oreo Sprinkles is at the front of the kennel with soft body language and forward ears. When the door is open, she pushes her head through and looks out into the room, then turning her attention to the assessor, attempting to come forward to head bunt against their hand. The assess a hand is used to pet her along her cheeks and body, she head bunts against it with force and allows fully body pets, going back and forth against the tool to pet herself. Her tail alternates to mid level and high in the air and occasionally swishes. Oreo Sprinkles flops down in the kennel and rubs against the assess a hand, grabbing it to bunny kick before jumping up and continuing to solicit attention. The assessor closes the kennel and comes back with a bite glove on, petting Oreo Sprinkles on the cheeks and head. She initially accepts the petting, rubbing her cheeks enthusiastically along the glove. After a few passes along her body, when she is pet near her lower back, she escalates to hissing and swatting the glove. Oreo Sprinkles then goes back to head bunting and accepting pets on her cheeks and head, alternating between quickly hisses and swatting, and then head bunting. When pet again by the lower back, Oreo Sprinkles escalates to growling, spitting, and swatting. The interaction is ended. Due to prior owner history and a repeat bite/scratch history (we feel that this cat will do best being released for rescue.
