Animal Profile

Mango

Hello, my name is Mango . My animal id is #216638. I am a male orange cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12/21/2024, with the surrender reason stated as other.

Mango is at risk and needs placement for medical reasons. Mango is suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection, secondary to Calicivirus, and has developed severe painful oral ulcers. He has made attempts to eat, but he is not doing well. Mango has not responded to initial supportive care and needs more aggressive treatment than we can provide in shelter.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. A volunteer writes: Mango and friend Kat were brought to the Manhattan Care Center as their owner moved to a far away country. What a cute young man, a light orange tabby brightening his kennel with his beauty! Mango was at first a little shy, not too sure what he was doing in this place. Should he trust us or not? Mango chose the latter and started to play after eating a bounty of treats. Yep, he does love to eat and play with catnip pillows and feather wands. Soon enough, his fear was left behind and he was ready for cuddles. Mango is an active young cat but well mannered and who plays with moderation. Adorable Mango was adopted very quickly but unfortunately got sick with a cold and could not go home anymore. He is being treated in our medical quarters but will need more intensive management to get better and be ready to offer his love to his new family and bless them with his outgoing personality!

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Sweet,Affectionate,Curious,Skittish

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: New home adjustment period

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Mango was calm and alert in his den, with soft eyes and ears forward. He was initially shy but allowed petting and a head bunt. He purred during the assessment and ate treats. While he was antsy when picked up, he tolerated attention once settled. Mango tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
