Tyone
Hello, my name is Tyone. My animal id is #257442. I am a male tan dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 6/16/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won't allow.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormTyone is at risk due to behavior concerns. Despite leaning into contact from handlers, he is intensely fearful in care, thrashing and leash biting when he is walking in the hallway or being returned to kennel. This behavior was seen by his previous owner as well. His owner reported that once comfortable Tyone becomes playful and affectionate. He can be lazy, plays with his ball, and enjoys napping by his people. Due to intense thrashing and leash biting for staff and Tyone's safety he is unable to be walked. Medically, Tyone is apparently healthy.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Tyone in the care centers has been struggling to acclimate, he was reluctant to be leash and be taken out of kennel, and when returning thrashes intensely, making it difficult to walk him safely. Tyone is affectionate and playful, but struggles to acclimate in the care center. As a result, we recommend he is placed with one of our New Hope Partners.

Date of assessment:: 6/20/2026
Summary:: Due to Tyone's fearfulness, he is ineligible for a handling assessment.
Summary (6):: 6/20/26: Tyone is standing up at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, he has a tense body and tucked tail as he walks next to the handler. He would constantly look behind himself and would flinch when sudden noises would happen. He baulks to the ground when a loud motorcycle passes by. He is able to continue walking when the handler bends down and he accepts a few pets. When returning back to the building, he begins to back away and thrash on the leash when the handler opens the entrance door. He has no interest in treats and would continue to back away and thrash intensely causing himself to hit his head on the door. The handler then closes the door and enters the building through a different entrance that he was able to slowly enter into. When reaching his kennel room, he begins to quickly thrash and alligator roll when the handler quickly walks to his kennel. When the handler attempts to muscle him in, he thrashes and kicks his legs off of the handler. The handler then takes a quick second for him to settle and he is then quickly muscled inside as he continues to try to back away. He tries to shove his snout out the door as the handler gets their leash untangled and then locks the door and walks away.
Summary (7):: 06/19/26: Tyone is laying down in kennel as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and walks with a lowered body to the canine training room. Tyone engages with handlers, jumping up onto their laps with pinned ears, a wrinkled brow, and heavy pant. He paces the room and pants heavily throughout the interaction. Tyone walks with a lowered body back to kennel. The handler tightens their leash as they enter the kennel room. Tyone attempts to balk, but the handler quickly moves him into kennel. He allows the handler to remove the leash. 6/18/26: Tyone is laying down on his bed as handler approaches. He slowly approaches the front with a tense body as the handler unlocks the door. He retreats to the back of the kennel as the handler opens the door and attempts to leash him. He allows the handler to leash him as he turns his head away and he is then taken to the behavior room. In the room, he would explore around with sniffing and would jump up on the couch to sit next to the handler. He becomes comfortable taking treats and leans in to receive pets from the handler. He is able to shake off and begins to jump up on the handler to receive more pets. When returning back to his kennel, he baulks to the ground and has to be muscled in due to not wanting treats. 06/17/26 (Dog to dog note): Tyone is standing at the front of his kennel and allows the handler to leash him with ease. Upon exiting the kennel, he appears somewhat skittish of his surroundings and is escorted to the play yard to meet a female playmate. Once inside the yard, Tyone socializes appropriately with handlers while they place a drag leash and collar on him. Tyone approaches the greeting gate while maintaining a soft frame. After the gate is opened, he is walked toward his playmate for a face to face introduction. During the interaction, Tyone displays signs of confliction, repeatedly disengaging and then re-approaching his playmate. He appears interested in social interaction but demonstrates nervousness throughout the introduction, suggesting uncertainty regarding how to engage appropriately. Tyone continues to show interest in his playmate while displaying hesitant, conflicted body language. For more information, see Dog to Dog Assessment.
