Summary (5):: 10/27/26: It is reported that Bank is throwing himself into the kennel door and repeatedly keeps trying to push his face past the kennel bars. 10/23/26 [am]: Bank is at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He ignores offered treats but allows leashing. He slowly exits the kennel and walks through the room with no reaction to neighboring dogs. He follows handler at a slow pace through the hallways without reacting to pop-up crates or staff members. Once outside, Bank starts sniffing around the driveway and eventually relieves himself. He continues walking slightly ahead of the handler with mild to none leash tension. He has no interest in treats or handler's attempts to engage. He spends time sniffing and exploring his surroundings and moving forward. He has no reaction to any stimuli on the street. His body remains slightly lowered. Upon return handler clips the leash and brings Bank back into his kennel with no further issues.

Summary (6):: 10/23/26: Staff reports that Bank is rubbing his nose against the kennel bars again. 10/22/26: Bank is at the back of his kennel lying down when handler approaches. Handler offers a treat; Bank slowly gets up and comes closer. He sniffs a treat but ignores it. He does body shake and allows handler to leash him. He slowly exits the kennel and follows handler through the hallways. He has no reaction to pop-up crates or staff members. Bank is taken to the yard where he immediately relieves himself. He continues walking slightly behind the handler on the loose leash. After he enters the pen, he briefly sniffs around and goes back to the handler. He is not seeking additional attention but is responsive to verbal cues "sit" and "paw". Bank has no reaction to any stimuli in the yard (dogs, people, birds, loud sounds). When handler sits on the bench, he comes closer and sits next to them on the ground scanning his surroundings. His body is neutral. Upon return handler clips the leash but Bank starts retreating when approaching the room. Handler uses soft voice coaxing and runs him inside. Bank is brought back to the kennel with no further issues. 10/21/26: Bank is at the back of his kennel laying down as handler approaches, he is offered a treat but does not pay attention to it, he is leashed without issue and walks out of kennel with handler to the street. Outside Bank relieves himself almost immediately, and walks past people on the street without issue but does show general curiosity at times and will attempt to sniff toward people passing at times. He is walked around the perimeter of the street uneventfully and shows no reaction to dogs he sees outside. Bank stops to sniff spots often and walks slowly rarely pulling forward, when handler attempts to offer treats to Bank he generally ignores them. Bank is eventually brought back inside and briefly stops for a moment but is easily coaxed forward and returned without further issue. 10/19/26: Bank is at the back of his kennel as handler approaches, he approaches the front of kennel as handler unlocks the kennel door and allows leashing without issue. Bank exits kennel and walks with handler outside for his walk, Bank is slightly tense but he sniffs around and relieves himself outside. He has no reaction to any stimuli on the street. When the handler starts bringing Bank back toward the shelter, he stops and freezes at the place. He lowers his head and holds his body still; his tail remains tucked. Bank briefly looks up at the handler. He does not respond to verbal coaxing or attempts to encourage walking. Handler continues using verbal encouragement and increases their pace in an attempt to engage Bank to move forward. After sometime Bank eventually resumes moving toward the building. Once in the hallways, while approaching the room, Bank again stops and freezes, lowering his head and refusing to go inside. Handler increases the pace and runs Bank back into the kennel with no further issues. 10/17/26: Since his return from the previous night and today, Bank is observed to rub his nose and bite the kennel bars. They are able to remove the leash and sling with ease. 10/13/26: Staff reported that Bank has been chewing and pulling on the bars in his kennel. Date of intake:: 10/16/2026

Summary:: Balking and pancaking

ENERGY LEVEL:: Bank is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Bank.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior, we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Fearful,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Bank has been observed to balk and pancake while on leash. This behavior is not easy to redirect, and he has needed a sling to be returned. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Bank would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. On Leash Reactivity: Bank's previous owner states that he will jump towards people and animals that he sees while on leash. Bank will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than animals and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
