Hematochezia noted on rounds board since 11/11. Currently at Glendale for spay surgery. Will start on metronidazole 15mg/kg PO BID x5d and switch post-op rimadyl to tramadol 3mg/kg PO BID x3d. Will recheck PE tomorrow once back from sx.

Active, attention seeking, clean run EENT: Eyes clear, minimal nasal discharge HL: Dry hacking cough A: On treatment for diarrhea, CIRDC P: Continue with metronidazole, Rec doxycycline 200mg PO q24 x 14 days. Excellent prognosis

Ginger Plum seems to be dog Reactive and was bark and pulling to get to the other dog that the police brought in. She was very wiggly and had her tail wagging when the counselor approached. She allowed collaring and knowns command sit.

Look:: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity:: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog's mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Summary (1):: Ginger Plums is uncomfortable around other dogs, and displays a tense body during interactions. Ginger Plum was found as a stray with another large mixed breed dog but we do not have any further information about her behavior around other dogs. It was noted by an employee, Ginger Plum hard bark towards the other dog she was surrender with. The Behavior Department recommends that Ginger Plum be the only resident dog at this time. 11/08: When off leash at the Care Center, Ginger Plum displays a neutral body posture at the gate. She briefly sniffs the male greeter, before moving away to explore her surroundings. As the session continues, Ginger Plum re-approaches the greeter with raised hackles and a tense posture. She quickly moves towards him, with a stiff body, when he paces the pen, but is easily interrupted by handlers. She spends the rest of the session, tracking the other dog while displaying a tense posture.

Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to potential toy guarding behavior, we feel that young children may not know to respect this warning. Older, dog savvy children can be considered as long as the adults feel confident that Ginger can be left alone while playing so she does not need to escalate to a growl. Behavior modification for food guarding behavior can be found at aspcapro.org. Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the behaviors that Ginger Plum has shown during playgroup (see GROUPBEHAVIOR SUMMARY), we feel that Ginger Plum should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Ginger Plum associate dogs with things she enjoys like toys or treats.

Potential challenges comments:: On leash reactivity: At the care center Ginger plum has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them and barking. We cannot be sure if this reaction is due to excitement and frustration, though we recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. She will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs. Resource Guarding: Ginger Plum becomes stiff when attempting to remove the toy item. It is important to leave Ginger alone while he is playing and never to take anything directly from his mouth. When he is asked to drop something he should be traded for an item of equal or higher value, in order to reward Ginger for relinquishing the item he has.
