I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me.

Summary (6):: 12/20/25: Tyrone is at the back of his kennel lying down as handler approaches. He is leashed while distracted with treats and more treats are tossed as Tyrone exits kennel which he follows out to the hallway. Tyrone exits the room without issue and walks with handler out to the street, in the driveway he passes multiple dogs with minimal reaction besides briefly staring at them with slight tension in his body. He is easily redirected when called however and does not stop walking with handler, outside he does not pull when walking and checks in with handler when called and accepts treats from handler. He sees multiple dogs outside but is easily redirected when called and offered treats and allows dogs to pass without issue, Tyrone walks for a while with handler without incident, stopping briefly to sniff spots on the street or to relieve himself. When hearing people speak across the street, Tyrone stops walking and looks in their direction, but he’s easily redirected when the handler calls him. He also allows pets from the handler. Tyrone notices a dog across the street and presents a slightly tense body. As the handler pulls him away, another dog a few feet away appears and begins to react towards Tyrone, but the handler calls him, and after looking back, Tyrone continues the walk. The handler easily clips their leash and returns Tyrone to kennel. 12/8/25: When handler entered the kennel room, Tyrone can be heard low growling in his crate. He begins barking at the handler. Date of initial:: 11/14/2025

Summary:: Wiggly and seeking attention, tense for exams/tasks allows muzzling and handling

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Tyrone so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks

Recommendations comments:: No Young Children: Due to Tyrone's jumping on handlers and his overall lack of impulse control, we recommend a home with no young children. Single-Pet Home/No Dog Parks: Due to reports of Tyrone being reactive on leash toward dogs as well as reacting to them in kennel, we recommend a single pet home and that he not be taken to dog parks.

Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Fearful,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Basic Manners/Poor Impulse Control: During his assessment Tyrone was observed to frequently jump on handlers, particularly when they were sitting down. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners and Impulse Control. Fearful: During his medical exams Tyrone was observed to display a tense body during certain portions of handling. It is important to always go slow and give Tyrone the option to walk away from any social interaction. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Tyrone would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. On-Leash Reactivity/Barrier Frustration: Tyrone has been reported to be reactive on leash toward dogs when exiting kennel and while on leash. Tyrone may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On-Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
