Miu Miu
Hello, my name is Miu Miu. My animal id is #252844. I am a desexed male black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 2 months 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/25/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving - no pets allowed.
Miu Miu is on the At Risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in his/her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid further bite/scratch incidents.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I can go home today! I have been known to shower my favorite people in love! I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I am playful and cute! I am not one to sit still! I will flourish in a home with someone that will keep me mentally and physically active! I am excitable and energetic! I will need positive outlets for my energy! I love to play and will need appropriate toys and positive outlets for my energy. Miu Miu interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but he has a tendency to become overstimulated and display limited warnings and has a very high energy level. His behavior is suitable for an adult-only home and an experienced adopter, provided the adopter is aware of these behaviors and is able to comfortably manage them. A volunteer writes: Miu Miu looks like he's admiring his own paws when he splays them out on the wall. A momentary distraction from his rolls, he has a unique coordination that is somehow even cuter than it sounds. Brought to us due to a no pet policy, Miu Miu's known as a friendly and outgoing superstar with some pretty clear and defined interests, mainly playtime. He's a smart cat who would love nothing more than to go and do, to play and to pounce, he only needs someone to invite him. Since they haven't just yet, Miu Miu has taken it upon himself to invite him. Rolling around and stretching his paws like it's the best thing ever, we all know that it's only second to meeting you.

For a New Family to Know: He is described as a friendly indoor cat who spends most of his time in the bedroom of his home where he enjoys chasing and pouncing on toys, chasing bugs, playing gently, and scratching on carpet or fabric surfaces. He eats both wet and dry food of Meow Mix brand and his favorite treats are Temptations cookies. He is accustomed to having access to a covered litterbox with a plastic liner and non-clumping scented litter located in the bathroom of the home.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Miu Miu returned from a short foster period after a DOH incident with the foster's child, although the foster initially noted that he adjusted well to the home and appeared confident and comfortable, doing well with the child - although he did show some signs of having a shorter threshold for environmental stimuli. After returning to the shelter and interacting with behavior staff, he escalated and had another DOH incident. ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 5/04/26 FB61 Lying in front of kennel upon approach, body and face relaxed with his ears forward and his eyes bright and alert. He rolls all around when spoken to, vocalizing continuously and he leans in for cheek and chin rubs with the scratcher tool! He is rewarded with treats and a catnip toy. He is really beginning to warm up and is much more curious and attention seeking than he was previously. Has potential! Loves to play with toys. 5/5/26 FB06 Miu Miu is pacing back and forth meowing at the front of the kennel with a neutral face and eyes. As I opened the door and offered the scratcher he curiously sniffed. He enjoyed some head and body pets. I then gave him a feather toy that he really enjoyed. Knocking it out of the kennel, he tried to follow it but I closed the door before he could jump out. He definitely loves to play. 5/21/26 FB61 lying in center of kennel, body and face neutral with his eyes alert and his ears forward. He makes eye contact when spoken to and he stands up to greet me as I open the kennel door. He allows petting along his head and body with the scratcher tool while leaning in, body and face remaining slightly tensed and turning his head to watch the tool pass along his back with an alert expression. His tail raises and quivers. He appears to be sensitive to touch along his back at this time. Will continue to monitor. Loves treats and loves toys. 5/26/26 FB06 As I was approaching Miu Miu’s kennel for his evaluation, his face and eyes were neutral, body loose and ears forward as he was rubbing his cheeks and body on the door. As I opened the kennel door, he immediately accepted head pets, leaning in. I then used the scratcher to pet along his back. He laid his front end down and raised his back end up in the air as I scratched the base of his tail. He then began to roll around exposing his belly, even allowing me to touch his belly with the scratcher briefly. As I was ending the interaction he stood and came to the front again. I returned to his kennel about 2 minutes later to attempt a pick up. My arm was stretched across the front as I was trying to lure him away from the wall when he jumped up with his front paws, holding my arm and biting through my sweater, drawing blood. His tooth more grazed my arm as I pulled it away from him. 6/2/26 FB06 Miu Miu is lying relaxed looking out into the room. His face and eyes neutral, ears are forward. As I opened the door and offered the scratcher, he stood quickly and jumped up on the ledge. Following him with scratcher, he tries to avoid it as he pulls himself away but then quickly sniffs it. His tail is vibrating, possibly overstimulated before I even started the interaction. He enjoys some head pets but then stops to sniff again. This goes on for a few rounds. GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Energetic
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Affectionate,Demanding,Playful,People oriented,Curious,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,Fearful,Very high energy level,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Bite incidents on 5/18/26 and 5/26/26 Foster parent's 3 year old daughter, was facing Miu Miu and talking to him while was sitting upright and not moving. The child walked away and Miu Miu’s pupils became enlarged and he began walking quickly towards her, and bit her on the left buttock then let go and walked away. He went to lay on his shelf, with his tail thumping hard in a consistent and quick rhythm hard on the shelf and while also slow blinking. Eventually he fell asleep. It seems that there may have been some sort of environmental noise trigger for him - possibly the child speaking to him - although it is not fully clear, and her turning and walking away (the speed she turned or walked is not clear) may have engaged his stalking or prey drive. Due to him biting and immediately removing himself and creating distance, this incident appears to be more related to overstimulation and potentially more of a "warning" or "excessive energy and inappropriate outlet" incident. Miu Miu may have become overstimulated and communicated this through a bite with limited warning (behaviors similar to those seen in shelter), before removing himself, or may have not been engaged in play enough and had excess energy that he did not have an outlet for and after the child in the home began to move away, he (as a very playful and high energy cat) stalked her and released/redirected that excess energy in an inappropriate fashion. While up on the shelf that he removed himself to, it is mentioned he was thrashing his tail but also slow blinking. When a cat is overstimulated but slow blinking, they are likely feeling conflicted. They are trying to soothe themselves or communicate a desire to stay peaceful, but their nervous system is overwhelmed. This "shut down" response usually means they are experiencing sensory overload On 5/26/26, a Feline Behavior Specialist was completing a behavior assessment for Miu Miu. They had been petting him with a scratcher tool and had allowed him some time to reset before opening the kennel again to try to redirect his positioning in the kennel with treats. Miu Miu became overstimulated, pupils enlarged. He jumped up and bit her left arm through her sleeve. His teeth dragged down her arm leaving a 2 inch mark. There were no punctures and she washed her arm with soap and water and applied antibiotic ointment and covered her arm with a band aid. She did not seek further medical attention. During his second DOH incident, while Miu Miu was being given time to decompress, he was likely experiencing some trigger staking and required a longer period to fully settle down from his overstimulation and sensory overload. Due to not having enough time, he was faster to escalate. Miu Miu takes time to settle into the shelter environment, and both times has come in with a high level of FAS - hissing, growling, and lunging in kennel. However, during his full post DOH assessment, he presented with social and appropriate behaviors.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Other,Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and previous behavior history, the behavior team feels Miu Miu would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment. Note: While it is known he previously lived in a home with an 11-year-old child and was noted to do well with them - when in a foster home with a 3-year-old child, there was a DOH-B incident in the home with no one definitive trigger. While Miu Miu may do well with specific older children capable of respecting his boundaries and understanding his behavior needs regarding his potential for overstimulation - out of caution, the behavior team feels it is most appropriate for Miu Miu to be adopted out to an Adult-Only home.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 4/28/26 Upon approach, Miu Miu was lying curled up at the back of the ledge with wide eyes, forward ears and his tail loosely wrapped around his body. As the kennel door opened and the scratcher was slowly offered, he stepped forward and curiously sniffed. As the assessor attempted to pet him, he quickly pulled his head back and stepped to the back of the ledge against the back wall. He then squirmed but tolerated some pets. As the scratcher was passed along his backside he continued to squirm, turned his head and hissed at the scratcher. No pick up was attempted at this time. After the kennel door was closed and the assessor peeked through the small glass window and placed their hand on it, Miu Miu came forward and sniffed. 6/03/26, 07/06/26 Upon meeting with Miu Miu again, he is siting at the front of his cage with a neutral face and body, ears forward and tail loosely wrapped. As the cage door is opened, he stands with his tail raised and sniffs the Assess-A-Hand offered to him, head bunting and leaning into head and cheek pets, as well as pets along his side. He is tolerant of pets along his back and sides and solicits consistent pets for about 20 seconds before he begins to tense slightly and looks back at the fake hand. After a few more pets, he turns quickly to bite the fake arm and continues to receive more pets from the assessor to determine what his escalation point is, should his boundaries not be listened to or body language not be read appropriately. He then flops onto his side and presses the arm along the side of the main area of the cage with both feet and as the arm moves, he bites it a few more times before releasing. The assessor pets along his side, really pushing him (in reality, really pushing him past an appropriate handling threshold) and he turns one last time and bites and holds. It should be noted that during this interaction, Miu Miu was pushed past what a normal level of petting and touch would be for a cat with known overstimulation and reactivity would be - in order to investigate the severity of his reactivity. He does not hiss, growl, or swat, or give much of warning before biting - which can be difficult to manage and has informed the decision to have him adopted out to a home without children. Given that Miu Miu had no previous bite history in his initial home, is a large cat, and is a very high energy cat; while it cannot be guaranteed, there is a potential that once he has had time to get excess energy out, and is given the appropriate outlets for his energy levels - his threshold for interaction/petting as well as environmental stimuli/sensory overload may increase.
