Other Notes:: Faith allows most handling but has paw sensitivity sometimes, she will run away if you attempt to clip her nails. She can also have anxiety in stressful situations; her anxiety is passing back and forth. Faith is very affectionate and loves quality time with family. She is crate trained and can stay in one for up to 9 hours and is fully potty trained to go while out on walks. Faith knows cues "sit, stay, paw, spin, and lay down". She prefers to spend her time in whatever room her family are in and is not picky with food or treats. She also loves playing fetch with balls.

Summary:: 7/27: Handlers attempt to conduct a handling assessment with Faith, but she immediately begins shaking. Once on a drag leash, Faith alternates between the furthest back corner of the office to hide or pacing between either office door, jumping on it briefly, seeking an exit. When a handler approaches to attempt to interact, she whale eyes, tucks her tail tighter, and flees. Out of concern for her stress levels, she is returned to her kennel, and a handling assessment could not be conducted. 07/11/26: Faith is taken to the behavioral office for a behavioral assessment. Faith seeks an exit and goes towards the corners of the room and will sit and shake, she allows the handlers to collar her but remains frozen in place. Due to her fearfulness, a handling assessment will not be condcuted at this time. 7/10/26: Faith is taken to the behavioral office for a behavioral assessment. In the office, she begins to shake and pace around the room and stay in the corners of the room. Faith is taken back to her kennel and given more time to decompress.

Summary:: According to Faith's previous owner(s), she is playful and social with other dogs. 07/13/26 Faith is introduced to a novel male while on a loose leash (showed high levels of FAS and uncomfortable with leashing). She slowly approaches the gate with a tense, slightly trembling frame and tucked tail. After a moment, she walks away and does not return to the gate.

Summary (7):: 07/26/26 (Reassessment): Faith is laying on her bed as the handler approaches. She stands up and allows the handler to leash her. In the hallways, she pulls moderately and tucks her tail, pulling a bit harder when passing by loud kennel rooms or fans. In the office, Faith darts around the room, continuously seeking exit. She will approach the handler for just a moment when the handler coaxes her over with baby talk. She is returned to her kennel without issue. 07/22/26: Faith is lying in the back of her kennel and will get up and approach the front, standing still as the handler places the leash over her head. She will then calmly walk to the kennel door, ready to exit. Faith will be brought outside for an enrichment outing. While outside, she will maintain a neutral frame, though her tail will remain tucked between her legs. She will appear hypervigilant of her surroundings, with her ears pinned back as she explores the environment. Once this session is concluded, Faith will be brought back to her kennel safely without any issues. 7/14: Faith is brought to the behavior office for kennel swaps. She immediately puts herself in a far corner away from handlers, trembling with whale eyes when handlers speak to her or attempt to offer her treats. When her new kennel is ready, Faith curls into herself as a handler picks up the end of the drag leash to walk her back to the kennel. 7/13/26 (playgroup): Faith is at the front of the kennel as the handler approaches but will retreat to the back quickly. The handler attempts to coax her forward but she stays in the back. They are able to drape the leash on her and she will then begin to exit the kennel with a lowered posture and tucked tail. She will walk to the yard to meet another dog (see dog to dog for more information) After a while she returned to kennel with no issue. 07/11/26 (Assessment): Faith is at the back of her kennel, laying on her bed as the handler approaches. She does not get up, and the handler has to drape the leash over her head. She gets up and exits the kennel slowly. Both in the hallway and in the office, she tucks her tail and remains hypervigilant. In the office, she seeks exit the entire time, walking between the two exits and the closet door. She is returned to her kennel without issue.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Faith's high level of fearfulness, we recommend that she be placed in an adult-only home at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Faith came into the care center as an owner surrender due to her owners moving. Faith is noted in the prior home to be very affectionate and loves quality time with family. Faith has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity: In the prior home it is noted that Faith allows allows most handling but has paw sensitivity sometimes; she will run away if you attempt to clip her nails. We recommend gradual desensitization around grooming equipment. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity. Anxiety: Faith is noted in the prior home to have anxiety in stressful situations; her anxiety is passing back and forth. Providing predictable routines, enrichment, and a calm environment may help reduce anxiety-related behaviors. Please see the handout on generalized anxiety. Fearful:During Faith's medical exam she is noted to become timid, shaking, shutdown, allowed for handling and tasks with muzzle. In the care center, she is noted to shake seek exit and become shutdown. We recommend low-pressure interactions, providing adequate space, and allowing Faith to build confidence and allow her time to decompress. Please see the handout on decompression period.
