Moteck
Hello, my name is Moteck. My animal id is #212049. I am a desexed female white cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 1 months 4 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/11/2024, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormMoteck is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. Medically Moteck has mild dental tartar, but is otherwise healthy.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. A volunteer writes: Moteck enjoys her space and her treats, which is adorable and we're happy to give her both, but to be honest, she could also use a bit of patience and understanding at the moment. We know that Moteck isn't a fan of people she doesn't know yet, and, while this is fair, it adds a considerable challenge to shelter life. Motek sits and shares her grumbles and frustrations at her current circumstances. Though she may not be looking for someone to commiserate with right now, she's hoping someone will see past her grumbly hissed hellos and offer her a chance. We're all learning, growing, and trying to make the right choices along the way and our Moteck is no exception.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/17/27 FB79 Inside her den, Motech low growls/grumbles when she hears me speak softly and open her kennel door; she has a low wide glare with her tail wrapped around her body. She watches as the pointer tool is brought closer and hisses when the tool is used to pet her cheek. I leave a few treaties and toys and respect her space. 10/19/24 FB79 Standing at the front of her kennel, Motech has a mid level tail, forward ears and relaxed almond eyes as i approach and greet her with a soft voice. She peaks her head into the cubby when i open the cubby door and sniffs the treats i placed down - she slightly flinches at my hand when i slowly bring it closer for her to sniff so i give her some space and she enjoys her treats! 10/23/24 FB58 In her den but comes out on her own when spoken to. She is a little hesitant today, I offer treats in the cubby area and she sniffs them and the tool, allowing pets on her head and shoulders and again sniffing the tool. She eats all treats and plays with the catnip toy I give her. 10/29/24 FB1261 Standing in front of kennel, ears forward and stub tail.. raised? She makes eye contact with a soft expression and she eats the treats offered. When I present the scratcher tool she leans forward to sniff it, then she accepts petting along her cheeks and chin while leaning in. I do not pet her along the body to keep her from escalating and to prevent creating a negative association. I reward with more treats. 10/31/24 FB79 Motech is standing in her kennel with a soft look and neutral body; she enters into the cubby where i place treats for her that she begins to enjoy. Motech allows me to pet her on his head and give her cheek/chin rubs. I leave toys and some extra treaties for being to patient today! 11/4/24 FB79 So sweet girl! Sitting on top of her den, Motech hears me approach and takes a big step down with a high tail. She slightly flinches at mt hand when i bring it close for her to sniff but does allow pets on her head and cheeks; she also allows me to pet up her back and tail with no reaction as she looks around the room. I leave some treats and a catnip toy for being the best today. 11/8/24 FB58 Sitting on top of her den and comes down to the front, accepts a few pets on her head before tensing with her tail low. I close the door slightly and she walks past, rubbing along her den before she moves next to it and curls up. She accepts pets along her head and cheeks with the scratcher tool and I am able to switch to my hand. She rolls onto her side with her front paws held up as she purrs and leans her head into pets. While she allowed a couple pets on her side with the tool, when I pet her side slightly with my hand, she tenses and almost swats me. -GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Pet-induced aggression,Fearful,New home adjustment period
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On the top of her den, Motech sits looking at the assessor with wide dilate eyes and forward ears but they tilt to side and she hisses when the assessor introduces the assess a hand. Motech swats and strikes the tool with force when it is brought closer as she continues to hiss at it - she remains very still as she watches the hand for any movement and when it makes contact with the top of her head she strikes it multiple times followed up attempting to bite it. When the assessor held the hand in place, Motech slightly leans in and soflty head bunts the hand and briefly tolerates pets on her head before backing up and starting to low growl/grumble. Pick up was not attempted. 11/14/24 During re-evolution, Motech was on the top part of her kennel with wide eyes forward ears and a neutral tail; she takes a bog step down when the assessor opens her kennel door and speaks softly. She leans in for head/cheeks pets and really enjoys pets under her chin as she falls over on her side and rolls over on to her back accepting pets on her belly with the scratcher tool and pets on her head/cheek/chin area from the assessors hand. When she was able to coax her back to a standing position to attempt pick up she swats at the assessors arm but does no escalate any further. Motech is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat/bite and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
