Nyla
Hello, my name is Nyla. My animal id is #252503. I am a desexed female white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/23/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormNyla is at risk due to behavioral concerns from her previous home. Nyla has been social with staff and handlers during her stay, readily engaging in enrichment sessions and playing fetch. She does have a bite history that occurred in her previous home. Nyla bit a stranger on their left thumb as a result of them intervening when Nyla attempted to bite the stranger's small dog. Further details about the incident were not provided. Her previous family says she enjoys meeting people, is playful, and enjoys watching TV. They also noted that she will bark and growl at smaller animals on walks. Medically, Nyla has dental disease.

Summary:: According to Nyla's previous owner(s), she is friendly and outgoing with other dogs. Addendum: Nyla's Dog-Dog was conducted before we were made aware of her DOH status. 04/25/26 Nyla is introduced to a novel male while off leash. She approaches the gate with a square frame, high hackles, and hard stares the male through the gate. Due to Nyla's obvious discomfort, the interaction is left at a gate greet.
Summary (7):: 05/12/26: Nyla is standing at the front of her kennel vocalizing and allows the handler to leash her with ease. She is then brought to the play yard for an enrichment outing. Once inside the yard, a drag leash is placed on her. Nyla explores the yard freely while maintaining a neutral frame and relieving herself. Handler tosses a tennis ball, which Nyla repeatedly chases, retrieves, and returns directly to the handler, dropping the ball in front of them each time to continue play. She remains engaged in the game of fetch throughout the session. When the session is complete, Nyla is brought back to her kennel safely without any issues. 05/05/26: Nyla is at the front of her kennel, barking as the handler approaches. She is leashed easily. Nyla pulls moderately on her way to the play yard, and once there, she sniffs around. She shows little interest in the handler, but will take treats when offered. After a few minutes, Nyla stands at the play yard gate and pulls moderately as she returns to the building. She returned to her kennel without issue. 4/28: It is written on the board that Nyla destroys her crate. 4/26/26: Nyla is reported to be reactive to dogs and birds while out on walks. 4/25/26 (late entry - assessments): Nyla is at the front of her kennel pawing at the kennel door and vocalizing as the handler approaches. She will attempt to push out of crate as the handler leashes her and wis brought to the behavior office w here she is clipped to a drag leash. (see assessment for more info) Nyla seems aroused throughout the session, walking around the room between handlers quickly and with scattered focus, she will take treats roughly as well. Nyla is returned to her kennel with no issue. 4/25/26 (late entry - PG): Nyla is at the front of her kennel barking and pawing onto the bars of the kennel as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and brought out to the play yard to meet another dog.
