Hello, my name is Patron. My animal id is #227626. I am a desexed female brown dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 9 months 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 5/21/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won't allow.

Patron is at risk due to kennel deterioration. In care Patron had shown signs of kennel stress such as licking her kennel walls, biting on her kennel bars, and breaking the carabiner from her kennel. She will had hard bark at other dogs across from her kennel. With handlers, she has shown social behaviors seeking attention, allowing petting, and will engage in pattern games. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. Not only do I pull at heart strings, but I also pull on leash! I will need someone to help me with my leash manners.

She is leashed with ease, begins play bowing and bouncing around, walking to the play yard where she is clipped to a drag lead and free to explore the space. Patron is social with handler throughout; readily approaching as handler kneels down and leaning into petting along head, neck, and body. Patron takes treats gently from hand and will briefly explore the pool, scenting towards treats that are floating, but does not enter. She shows no interest in tossed treats but will engage with a treat toss pattern game for several minutes. After her session, she is leashed with ease and returns to kennel safely. 05/24/25: Patron is standing at the front of her kennel with a loose body and allows the handler to leash her with ease. At the conclusion of the session, Patron is brought back into the facility and returned to her kennel safely with no issues. See dog-to-dog note for more information. 05/23/25 (assessment Note): Patron is standing at the front of her kennel and allows the handler to leash her with ease. Patron is returned to her kennel safely with no issues. 05/23/25: Patron is sitting on her Kuranda bed in the back of her kennel but will walk to the front and allow the handler to leash her with ease. Patron is escorted to the play yard, where she allows the handler to place a collar on her. She is then set free to roam the yard, walking around sniffing and exploring the different scents. Patron avoids direct contact with the handler but will occasionally approach to sniff before walking away again. when it is time to go back into her kennel, Patron plants her feet and refuses to walk back into the kennel. With gentle guidance and patience, the handler is able to walk her back inside. Once inside, she turns around and attempts to run back out. Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety,Strength/leash pulling,Other

Potential challenges comments:: Other/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Patron was noted in the prior home to have scratched the super (did not break skin) in the building. Anxiety: In the care center, Patron displays signs of anxiety, most notably through frequent whining. This behavior suggests she may be experiencing stress or discomfort in the shelter environment. A consistent routine, calming enrichment, and positive reinforcement for quiet, relaxed behavior can help reduce her anxiety and support emotional regulation. Please see the handout on generalized anxiety. Strength/leash pulling: In the prior home Patron pulls hard while on leash while on walks. Training should focus on teaching loose-leash walking using reward-based methods Please see the handout on Strength/leash pulling.
