Gatito
Hello, my name is Gatito. My animal id is #252340. I am a desexed female white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 4/17/2026.
Gatito needs at risk placement for medical reasons. She is an adult cat with persistent bloody urine due to a mass in her bladder. She has warmed up to staff while in shelter but her urinary symptom has not resolved. She needs surgery to biopsy the mass and make an effective treatment plan.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...
This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Gatito needs at risk placement for medical reasons. She is an adult cat with persistent bloody urine due to a mass in her bladder. She has warmed up to staff while in shelter but her urinary symptom has not resolved. She needs surgery to biopsy the mass and make an effective treatment plan. What my friends at ACC say about me: Gatito has made significant improvements since her arrival on the 17th and came forward out of the den, curious and sweet. She approached the assessor, arched her back, gently enjoyed petting, leaning in gently for cheek rubs and eating squeeze-up treats. She tolerated being picked up and then was set back down. She got slightly upset and gave a single hiss, but otherwise appeared reasonably calm and very sweet. Towards the end, she did seem to become somewhat aroused and did some additional hissing and a little posturing as if to swat, but then leaned in for more cheek rubbing so she appears to be sweet but a bit conflicted. Gatito interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is often easy to handle and tolerates all petting although sometimes becomes conflicted. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in becoming aroused or conflicted.

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
KNOWN HISTORY:: Gatito was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Lively
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Social,Shy ,Sweet,Affectionate
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: She's slightly conflicted and she becomes aroused and even though she likes petting and attention she can also hiss and make to swat. Given that she was much more upset in the past days, she appears to be recovering behaviorally and likely may make more progress. Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: For the time being but see if there has been more improvement.
