Other Notes:: Mochi has general anxiety and is anxious when left alone. During walks, Mochi is fearful of loud noises and will attempt to hide. Mochi isn't bothered when held/restrained, disturbed while sleeping, pushed/pulled off furniture, feet/paws touched, or when their collar is grabbed. Mochi is fearful when startled.

Summary:: 8/12/25: Mochi Moo moo greets another dog at the gate with a tense body and high stiff tail.

Summary (6):: 9/7/25- Mochi moo is at the front of the kennel with neutral body, he is easily leashed and taken for a street walk. When exiting the building another staff member said hello to him and he lowered his body with his ears pinned, he ran forward. He had a moderate pull on the street and would turn to go to building with his tail tucked. Handler offered him treats but he showed no interest. Handler softly spoke to him to encourage him to continuing walking. He followed handler then turn again towards the building, he would periodically do this. When waiting for the light to change handler's shoe made a loud squeak sound and Mochi turned abruptly lowering his body with ears pinned away from them. He would sniff around and have no reaction to people passing him. He saw some dogs across the street and just looked at them with a neutral body and kept walking. He allowed handler to scratch his head and neck. He was easily clipped and returned to kennel without issue. 9/5/25: It is reported by staff that Mochi Moo Moo is jumping up high in kennel when the room is moderately active. 9/3/25: Staff report that while being walked on the street, Mochi is fearful, tucked tail, whale eye ears pinned back. 8/30/25 (late entry)- Mochi is at the middle of his kennel with a neutral body when handler approaches his kennel. He gets up when handler unlocks his door, when they attempt to leash Mochi retreats a little. After a couple of attempts handler was able to lasso the leash into him. He slowly exits, he sits in the elevator and gently takes treats from handler's hand. He is taken for a street walk. He walks on a loose leash and has a mild pull towards various spots to sniff with his tail tucked. He looks around and comes to handler when treats are offered. He sees a dog walking behind us and he will turn to look at the other dog with a neutral body. Handler would softly talk to him and he follows then turns around again to look at the other dog. Handler does a light jog and Mochi follows, he goes back to sniffing around not turning to see where the other dog is. He has no reaction to people passing, when handler scratches his side he leans into their legs. He sees another dog and just watches with a neutral body, handler calls to him and he follows. He is easily clipped and returned to his kennel without issue.

Summary (7):: 8/27/25: It is reported that Mochi is persistently and constantly pawing, head butting, and moving the transfer door. 8/26/25: Mochi is observed to be banging on the transfer door. 8/25/25: Mochi Moo Moo is observed to be jumping and pouncing on the transfer door repeatedly. 8/23/25: Mochi Moo Moo is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and is taken outside for a walk. On the walk, he has a tense body and low tail. He has no interest treats or toys. He would stop walking and try to lean into the handler when sudden sounds happened. He would pull hard in front of the handler with a tense body and tucked tail. He is slowly able to return back to his kennel with no issues. 8/14/25: ACS report that Mochi attempted to bite the leash when the handler was attempting to leash him. 8/12/25: Mochi is at the front of the kennel when the handler arrives. He is easily leashed, once exiting the kennel he immediately pulls towards the neighboring dogs while growling and barking. The handler pulls him away and straight arms him. Mochi then head whips and attempts to turn towards the handler three times. The handler keeps him on a short leash and is able to exit the kennel room. He is then taken to the yard for a dog dog interaction. Upon returning to the kennel room Mochi begins pulling forward with. In the kennel room Mochi pulls towards the other dogs mildly and is able to be returned to kennel with no issue. 08/07/25: Mochi Moo Moo is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is slowly fed some treats and gently accepts them but once handler begins attempting to leash him he flees into the other open side of his double kennel. Handler closes the transfer door and walks over to the other side, sprinkles treats on the floor and lassos Mochi. He exits kennel and walks out to the hallway with handler, once outside he baulks and is tense while frozen in place. He is coaxed forward and walks to the street with handler. While walking he passes dogs without issue and is slightly fearful when passing people or hearing sudden sounds. He walks with a tucked tail and once finished with his walk he is brought back to the care centers for his assessment, once complete he is brought back to to kennel on a pre-clipped leash and returns without issue. 8/6/25: Jumping up and down persistently while in kennel. Barking towards neighboring dog.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior and the potential for redirection we recommend an adult only home. No Dog Parks: Due to his on leash reactivity observed while in care we recommend no trips to the dog park.

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Mochi's previous owner states that he is fearful when startled and will attempt to hide from loud noises while on walks. Mochi has been observed to have a tense body and low tail. When handlers attempt to interact Mochi has been observed to show whale eye, lip lick, seek exit, and retreat from handlers. It is important to always go slow and give Mochi the option to walk away from any social interaction. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Mochi would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. Separation Anxiety/ Anxiety: Mochi's previous owner states that he has general anxiety and will become anxious when left alone. We recommend that potential adopters feel comfortable with separation anxiety behaviors and be prepared to manage and positively modify them should they appear in a home environment. They would do best in a home where a person is home for a large part of the day or with a plan so they are not alone for long periods of time. Please see handout on Separation Anxiety and General Anxiety. On Leash Reactivity: Mochi has been observed to pull towards the neighboring dogs while barking and vocalizing. When the handler pulled him away he began to head whip and attempted to spin towards them. Mochi will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior.
